It's a 1972 casting number. By then, Ford was making 429 and 460 engines, as well as some FE engines still. Got any pictures? That would make it easy.

A quick search on the net and it looks like you have a 351C. And yes they did make a 4 bolt. The numbers 3D11 I believe is the date code April 11th, 1973

You're missing some of the numbers, so it could be several different engines at this point...but a 351-C is a likely suspect.

Yes Ford made "4 bolts" main bearings. If it's a D2AE 1972 as mentioned by Fat Hack, then it's likely a 351 CJ (Cobra Jet). I had a 1972 Ranchero GT that had a 351 Cleveland CJ with 4 bolt mains. You can tell it's a Cleveland because the fuel pump bolts are vertical - one above the other rather than side by side like every other Ford engine I know about. These care great engines if you need a lot of power and torque. 351 W are more popular because they are more plentiful, easier to get parts for since they are closer to 289/302, 5.0 motors and they are a little lighter. Best regards.

It has been some time since i have worked on 351 C. If smal thread, If from my old memory, it is a 351 C. Do they have the smaller thread or bigger thread. I like the 351 c very well, never had a lot of problems with them. Had one a '70 Ford Ranchero Yellow, that came from Calf. I also had a '71 Mach II, Blue & Siver stripes.
