Okay I got some overspray on some black powdercoat, what should I use? I know acetone dulls the finish but haven't tried anything else. HELP ME! -Jesse
For painted surfaces they make an 'overspray clay' to remove contaminant's from the surface. It's used with the 'detail' spray.. Maguire's (sorry don't remember how to spell it ) sells it, and i have some myself. Works great.. Might work just the same with powdercoating..
A couple months ago I revarnished the bed of my truck and when cleaning the brush I sorta "fanned" the bristles and didn't notice at the time but the next day I had varnish spots spattered on my eyegl***es. I just chipped it off with my thumb nail.. Yes, it's slow, but I haven't noticably scratched the lenses.
The clay works great and will not harm the powder coated surface, or any painted surface for that matter. Here is a link to some info http://www.detailsupplydepot.com/scripts/depot.exe?pgm=dsd5.bbx Good luck, Tim
Here's a link to a brief article regarding use of clay bars: http://www.premiumautocare.com/howtousedecl.html Most excellent folks at this place too, storefront is in Sarasota, FL. One of the partners (Sam) is also partners in a Sarasota area dyno shop if anyone is ever inclined to stop by. After using a clay bar, another good step is to buff using a 'pre-cleaner', which is basically less aggressive than a buffing or glazing compound but more aggressive than any wax type polish. Pre-cleaners will also remove light swirl marks from washing with dirty mitts etc. Clay bars are pretty handy to have and work great for removing overspray from your wife's car, neighbor's car, or anyone else who wasn't smart enough to park upwind . Another reason to be lazy and leave my '32 PU in primer...
