I don't post much about projects and stuff I'm doing, and people keep telling me I should, so... I've been working on building a louver press...

    Here's what I started with...

Look familar? Look behind the truck.

I did a little bit and then stopped and took it to get it blasted.. I didn't want to wait until it was done, It was hard enough loading just this by myself!

I don't really have a lot pictures, but this is what I ended up with...

I made a removable piece to bolt it to the I-beam above and another one to bolt to the back.

Here's a panel I punched... It's not going on the car, but I had it laying around and just figured I'd try it.

They are the old style small ones with the rounded top...

I may do some more work on the press, maybe add some more reinforcement to the throat sometime, and I'd like to put some studs in the floor to bolt it down too.. but, anyway, that's what I've got for now..

Yuh tore out the hoss rack!

Nice looking frame, REALLY nice bracketing onto the I-beam overhead!

Yeah, those Pontiacs fit like they were made for it...

    That's a great idea.

  12. That is a good way to save money. Just drive around with your torch in the back of your pickup and look for suitable material for your current project.;)
That looks real nice. Did you check to see how much flex you had without attaching it to the building? That is a smart way to add strength.

Yea, but now some bozo will crash into your building cause the guard rail is missing...

    Nice work, -Abone.

    dies are from Dave Williams...

manually operated, using a pipe for leverage

It needs the I-beam for strength...too much flex without it.

someone stopped by the other day, sitting on the railing talking, they noticed it was cut and asked what was going on with it... I showed them the louver press...they thought it was pretty funny...

I actually didn't take it all down though, it was just a short section taken out to add a door... and I figured it was a good use of the steel...

Very nice. I like the way you took the flex out of it. Nice job on the louvers too!

Dave Williams sells the dies at Low Buck Tools And he supplys plans for the press. I built one and it works great. I have made lots of panels for my customers in Syracuse N.Y. I like your ingeniuty in making your press. Mike

I also picked up this old Bridgeport mill the other day. Now I've gotta figure out how to unload it...

Anyone know about what these weigh? Judging by how it felt hauling it home, I'd guess it's gotta be a couple thousand pounds.?

What are you using to punch them out with? I see the dies, but no mechanism to mash em together?
