well spent the last day and a half making some headway on the 63. got the power steering pump lined up almost dead nuts inline with the lower engine pulley so just need a bit shorter belt and then some custom lines made up and the power steering will be all set.

built up a quick set of exhaust pipes with thrush turbos from the local autozone. i had read numerous reviews on headers vs stock-style ram horn manifolds and using 2.5 vette ones vs the stock ram horns. i got the vette ones from summit based on price and solid reviews and that i am not going to futz with the 283.

so with that said the manifolds seem to fit great. replaced all new hardware. but i did not use the gaskets as there was no gasket when i removed the stock ones and the new ones had a tag that instructed not to use them as well.

i also replaced all the plugs but didnt touch the stock carb or filter. truck fired right up and sounded much better than before. the only question i have tho is now it idles high and if i get o9n the gas it takes a few seconds to get the idle down. if i pull the choke it the truck idles a bit better. my guess is that i have an exhaust manifold leak? but forgive my idiocy why would a leaking exhaust cause too much air getting in if i didnt touch the intake manifold at all? simply the excess air finding its way back up the carb? i know thats elementary just seems odd to me.
