Very interesting list ....especially the non-GM applications and the variables, such as torus size, etc. Jim, you are an amazing source of information! Thanks for posting this data. Ray
That's very cool. My 56 Olds hyd has the "55" number and I always wondered about that "wrong year" code. Your list shows that Olds is the only car in 1956 to use the 55 code. All the other 1956 makes use the correct 56 code. Thanks..
Faint memory suggests to me that (some ?) Olds got a change to the hydro is '56? Some different operational characteristics and/or different animal from the earlier versions? mid-year changeover? Dang! fading memory is annoying! Ray
You got part of it right in 56, the "new" trans was the Jetaway that came in the middle priced better 88, as well as in the 98. The cheap base model 88 still had the old Hydramatics....so....being that Jetaway and Hydros use different pilots, there are TWO different 56 Olds crankshafts.... hydro and 3 speed stick were the same, ...but Jetaway was not. To make things worse for a guy needing a 56 Jetaway crank, it is only one year.
