I am getting ready to paint my 50 fleetline and wanting to go two tone but cant figure out where to part the colors at the rear. any pics that you guys could dig up would be great thanks.
i hope some posts some pics i want to do a two tone on my girlfriends 50 pontiac streamline and have the same problem as you the car just doesnt have a natural "break" to make it look right
wrong year fleetline to tutone. You need a 42-48 2-door Fleetline to tutone. 49-52 fleetlines just don't work for tu-toning.
this is what im looking for i knew someone out there has done it thanks a bunch. is there any more out there?
I own a '51 Fastback, and have yet to see a two-tone treatment that I like. I say go for a good solid color, and add some tasteful pinstriping and leave it to the pros on pinstripe color. Here's some detail on the car shown for Frank Livingston's in an earlier post: Frank did the car in the 1990's and I saw it at the Roadster show in 1998. Frank had a two-tone pearl blue and white scheme, as shown in the shot. He sold the car some time later, and the new owner chopped the top and made numerous other changes including the front bumper, headlights and interior -- one of the most striking changes is a different two-tone treatment in red and silver. The car is now called "Scarlet Harlot", and was shown in the Long Beach Motorama.
Here are some other two-toned paint jobs on Fastbacks: Fastback in silver and black, has split back window and '58 taillights courtesy of a Corvette. Fastback in blue and silver, Buick trim. Fastback in white and black by Squeeg. 4-door Fastback done by Coddington for Wes Rydell in mid-90's called Genuine . Boyd did it in solid black; later it appeared in the early 2000s in two-tone silver and black.
here is how im about to do mine shaving chrome where tape is over the going on top of fender to trim then all the way down to bumper getting ready to start paint this week will post pics when done!
wow. talk about how to **** up a nice car. the red one reminds me of some of the custom models I built as a kid. just grabbing random bits from the parts stash and gluing them on. it is or was local. looks much worse in person.
guys, it's been over a year since the last post on this thread and i'm hoping someone has some new pics showing where to two-tone a 49-52 Fleetline. Thanks, Mark
I like when the split is down at the beltline stainless (at the bottom of the windows) and is only the roof and tail section. keeping the hood and fenders the same color at the lower body. (or is you want paint on the hood, like the black and silver split window version above)
This is my all time favorite 50 Chevy. Wishing I was on the salt watching some fast cars go by me!!!!!!!
Boones, i guess i'm too picky and I want the roof color above the split and the dilemma becomes how to do it clean under the rear window??? I need to figure out how to make the connection from the end of the trim to the trunk line.
Trade it for a car with beltline trim, its just not gonna look right. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
JW Caddy, that's it!! That black and red Fleetline looks *****en the way he finished it back there. Thanks for the pics, Mark
Your welcome, that kustom is the bomb!!!! When me and my wife saw that car we couldn't believe how that car flowed so well with the paint and tail lights. Hope to see yours soon like that one and good luck Mark. Jason
paint the top to the trunklid; then do narrow scallops onto the lid, maybe three of em, one in center, and one at each edge of lid?
