Hey All, New to it all. I've owned the 1957 Ford Custom 300 for 14 years and have decided its time to take it down to the bones and build her up. I'm a second generation owner. My grandpa bought it in 63 and after I kept stealing his FOR SALE signs off of it and moving it back into the garage for about 3 years he handed over the title and keys!! I started driving it around 13 years old and as I near 30 along with the recent passing of my gramps it seems time to give this old girl a new life. She is completely torn apart now and the fun and hopefully not too long of a journey is about to begin. It feels as if I have a million questions to ask from those who have gone before me. Any suggestions to my soon to be million questions will help! Thank all of you in advance for your help in making this dream come true and I'm glad to now be a part of this family!
Welcome to the HAMB. You couldn't start out with a better car than a '57 Custom 300! Good luck on your journey, and Happy 4th of July.
While you're at it, check out http://57fordsforever.com/smf all 57 Fords all the time. We have over 500 members who know a lot about these cars.
I also have a 57 Ford Custom 300 build site here on the H A M B - been at it for quit a long time - things started moving along pretty good this year - actually while I was in Denmark for 2 weeks my son kidnapped my Ford - THEN things started moving - I had the 57 in my shop for 5 yrs and would roll around on the floor dolly or cardboard for an hour or two - but not very often - He got tired of waiting for the project to move along and you'll have to check out the progress - My son, Mike, has a lift in his shop and if you are looking for suggestions about how best to tackle your project I'd suggest that you find yourself a lift and get the body off - things can really move along quickly once the body is separated from from the chassis - I'm 65 now and I'd guess without the lift I'd still be using the old floor dolly when I'm 70 - check out my build site and see for yourself how that one tool can make a huge project seem somewhat manageable - Looking forward to pics of your project - good luck - stnick http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...9&highlight=1957+ford+custom+300+build&page=9
Thanks all, STNick, I really like your page! It seems that your project is really moving along. I have the body off now and staring at a bare chasis with wide eyes and pondering what to do next! haha I figure I need to rebuild the front end first so that will be the first step. I'll start posting pics as soon as I start to blast and prep for the front end rebuild. Thanks for your page and support!
Welcome to the HAMB. I am sure Gramps will be beside you all along the way and I'm sure you will do him proud
On the front end - I went through that process 6-8 months ago - converted to disk and found it fairly easy and not too expensive - if you go that way (disk) drop me a note and I'll supply you with a parts list and numbers - thx - stnickcolo(at)q(dot)com
