i saw dads56's post about garage floor tie down loops, and it got me to thinkin' about my new garage floor. mrs. tredboy and i are building our new digs, it will be done in the spring. the garage is modest compared to some hambers garages, but it kicks the shit out of what i have now. i thought about the black and white tile floor thing, but a fella i know has that and cracked a few of them jackin' up his hemi. his floor was linoleum tile, but it still cracked and now looks bad. i don't wanna hafta put plywood under the jack and jack stands every time i go under a car. and i also don't want a ton of stains all over the floor and have people steppin' in 'em. AND i'm actually gonna take the time to put up floor to ceiling corrugated steel sheets on the inside walls of the garage to make it look a little more industrial/commercial. hey, i don't get much say on the rest of the house, so the garage is all mine.

so let's see what you guys use to protect your garage floor from fluids and to make it look a little cooler.

    i need ideas...

    thanks.
    tred.

That will be very noisy when grinding or banging on something.

Stick with Epoxy products for your floor.

yeah, epoxy products will keep the floor sealed for a while. You'll need to redo the paint every now and then if you actually do work in the shop, and you want it to keep looking nice. I just don't worry about it, the paint is mostly gone in the "work" are of my shop, but you know what? I can still get work done in it.

My floor is super market flooring with alot of acrylic wax on it. It looks great but it's hard to keep up. And you have to be carefull what you spill on it.

If I had to do it over I would have bought Race Deck rubber flooring for around the same money. Also if you move you can take it with you and reinstall it in your next garage, KK

nope my floor has been down for almost 12 (yup 12) years and still looks good. i just mop it once in a while and that makes it look brand new again. i got it from http://www.griotsgarage.com/ just follow the direction to the LETTER and it'll last a loooong time. here a couple of pics with it in the background.

heh...I guess you put a lot more effort into painting and maintaining your floor than I did. I really can't see getting too excited over the floor, as long as it is sealed to some extent so the concrete is not making dust, then it doesn't matter too much how pretty it is.

I'd like my living room to look as neat as retrofire's garage!

I need ideas also like tred and other guys also.
    1. Has anybody used the UCoatIt stuff you see advertised in all the magazines?
Since all the floor coating is "paint", floor prep is as important as prepping the panels on your car.
    2. What did anybody do to make their floor coating stay down?
    3. Any floor coating to stay away from?
    Thanks ahead of time.

actually i don't maintain it at all just mop it once or twice a year when i get a wild hair and clean the garage up. retrofire's garage is bitchin!

i haven't heard good things about it but those folks might not have prepped it correctly.

PREP is THE key to a floor staying down. my first garage the floor paint (not groits) came up over time but i didn't prep it correctly.

i like the groits but don't have experiance with any others

    later jim
