Could it be that I'm loosing my mind? I thought I read somewhere a while ago that someone made thermostats that failed open rather than closed. I've asked at all the automotive supply companies around here and no one even seems to know what I'm talking about. Do they exist ? where can I get one? Thanks , John

I put one of those turds in my brothers late model car just before winter a couple years ago. It made it one month before it stuck open and he was bitching about no heat!

Better to fail "open" and have NO heat,.....than to failr "closed" and overheat ?

I have a hard time finding a regular type thermostat, those damned fail-open things aren't worth a plugged nickel. They stick open if you have a little bubble of air anywhere in the system after you install them. Never had one work more than a few days!

  11. Ditto!! I never liked them myself as they tend to "fail" (lock open) quite frequently.
