There is speed parts, they are expensive.

Your only limited by what you can do.

Very cool motors with a sound all their own.

I got a six flatty, but mines an Oldsmobile. Going in a bellytanker. Maybe.

Back in the day we used to make a Racing & street version for the Flat head 6.Last wednesday I met a guy from Gilroy,CA. and showed him the patterns, I told him that if he could find about 10 customers, I'd seiously look into putting this head back into production.
I do have a NOS Cyclone dual intake also that is still @ the shop (Cook's) to remake a pattern from that also,But I need serious people who will step up with deposits if they really need em. P.M, me if you'd like jpgs.

Go to this web site for tech info on the flathead six.

    Two versions were made. G - 90hp and H - 95hp.

    Years of manufacture were '41 - '51.

There's one for sale in the HAMB Cl***ifieds, but you already knew that!!!!!

I am just planning on fabbing up my own intakes and exhaust manifolds..

A head though.. now that would be interesting...

They are rare as hens teeth.. unless of course you are into vintage boats.

Search the HAMB for ford flathead 6.. we have plenty of posts on them.. all with pretty much the same answers.

I am running one in my shoebox.. man is that thing heavy

I'm running two H series. Magnet is right, parts are super hard to find, and the prices are stupid. I'll be doing a teck post on fabing a split exhaust manifold from two stock ones. One car and one truck. Give me a few weeks to gather parts.
A head? For the Ford 226? I'll put some money down. Definatly. But, exactly how much are we talking about here?

Anyone running hot cams in these things?
I guess I'll check the site modifieddriver posted. I've never seen that site before.

They are great motors but a little lacking on power for a heavier car. I have one in my 46, and 3 others waiting to be put in other projects. I was lucky enough to find an M series, the most elusive of all flathead fords. It is a rare flathead 6 made for f-6 and above with 254 cu in. stock displacement. I have some plans for that motor and will fill you guys in when the machining begins. Speed parts are hard to find, but not that hard to make if you have some decent fab skills. Biggest set back in these motors is the rpm limit because of the length and only having 4 mains. Any questions, pm me, I have had some experience with these and would be happy to help.

Here is the deal! Back in the Ol Days, Cook used to make all kinds of what today we call "odd ball stuff," like eng/trans adapters for Studes,Cads,Olds & Buick. Man, even E.Rickman (Hot Rod Mag Photog) did a story on them repairing flatty motors that were broken off @ the bell housings due to exploding clutches.
But one thing that I didn't know until I started working with Cook's Machine Works is that he made 2 different versions of the 6 banger head. One for racing w/a separate water manifold and the other for hot street applications, I have both outer patterns, I'd need to make the core boxes again & that gets rather costly especially in urethane, but they'll last through out mine or any kids that I may have liftetimes. I'm anticipating roughly $800.00 for the head,That's a guesstimation,so If I'm wrong don't beat the sh*t outta me!:D You can email me direct @ cycloneracingequip@hotmail.com and I'll scan some pics for, but be patient ok, cuz I still got to get the maching done on the Cad stuff as well as the 24 stud stuff.
    Thanx for the interest,
    Kevin:cool:

Actually, it's hard to do a search on that because it comes back saying that the search engine omitted the "6" because it was too short or too common.
That limites your search to "flathead" and that's no help at all.

From what I've red, there was a guy in the Chaparrals CC of Dallas that was running a Ford flat six from a truck. He had a Knudson head and 3-2 intake, Jahns pop-up pistons, Clay Smith cam, and had the main bearings strapped. This thing would turn 7000 rpm on alcohol. And this was in a deuce in 1950. He pulled that engine, slapped it in a T and placed 3rd at the first Caddo Mills drags in September of '51.

...as per Honest Charley's Shop Rag.

That's no joke. I replaced my flathead 6 with a SBC and the front of the car went up an inch.

I would have kept mine if the bearings didn't cost $250 for rod and mains. It sounded awesome with just a straight pipe.

you can hear it here http://www.cliftongarage.com/video/firstdrive.mpg

Squablow.. if you are kickin it to the curb.. i would be interested.. although i will have to find a place to hide it... even if it is a "G" series :)

Yeah only 4 mains.. that ****s.. parts aint cheap..

I have the one for my shoebox out right now ('50 H series). fabbed up a p***enger side mount bracket so i could put it on a stand. Pulled the timing cover and teeth on the fiber gear was sheared.. looks like a relatively recent rebuild.. bored .30 over.. little to no wear on the cam.
I got me a new timing gear and gasket set.. now i am taking a long hard look at the dizzy and its gear.
Actaully, i am working on my impala so this is sitting..

  18. Kansas Kustoms can build a split dual exhaust for around $200.00 shipping included. I intend to have my 254 done as soon as I can afford it.

  19. I've got a 230cid Plymouth flattie, puts out 117hp. Stock at the moment, but I'm watching this thread with interest.

  20. Mine is a '51 226.. it may go into my model a project, but I'm seriously considering a v8.

yeah, it's heavy, squashed the casters on my ghetto engine stand pretty good :D

4 mains is plenty for a six cylinder. Remember, Ford's eight cylinder only had 3.
