Perry Sr. with Siebert's Custom Paint and Body www.siebertcustom.com, has in the past put on a car show during our local Bradshaw Days Celebration in Bradshaw, Nebraska, but we have not had one for the past couple of years. In the past, it has been a lower cost, but paid entry fee with a Live DJ, judging and trophies. Bradshaw is located 8 miles West of York (and the Highway 81 and Interstate 80 Intersection), on Highway 34. We are seriously debating trying to bring it back at a lower cost, and have considered making it a FREE entry car show, possibly with a Free Meal Voucher to get the entrants fed also. I am curious what all of your guys thoughts are on this, opinions on free vs paid entry, and trophies or no trophies. So far we have a little bit of donated funds to work with if it is a go, and we may be able to stir up a little more, but we were thinking of keeping it low cost and just trying to get a lot of car guys together and enjoy the day! Also, we would like to hear if you would be interested in attending to give us an idea on how many cars to expect. So....whats important, or not important to you guys, as YOU are who we want to come and enjoy it! Live DJ, radio with some tunes going, or no music necessary? Free entry and no or few trophies (or some dash plaques), OR paid entry, judging and more trophies. Free meal ticket or no free meal ticket? Possibly Hamburger or Hotdog, Chips and Drink or similar. Door prizes or None. Ive got a few ideas of what I think might work well, but I would like any input you guys are willing to give as to what costs are well spent, and what is not. After we have the plan laid out, I will either update this thread, or start a new one with all the details, and the rest of the Bradshaw Days Festivities for those who are interested. (Live band, dance, poker tourney, volleyball tourney, lawnmower races, etc.) Thanks, Brian Wolfe
Of the 30 or so events that I go to a year, the most important thing is the people. I have that weekend open & I'm only a couple of hours away down in Salina, KS area so I might have to run up and check this out. My 2 cents: Trophies: Invite attending car clubs to create their own trophies and give them out to their pick in the show, hand made trophies seem to mean more to people than store bought ones. Music: If it's a small area, some music is welcome but not necessary, large areas are hard to cover consistantly and seem to cause headaches, it's too loud here, can't here there, etc. Door Prizes: If you can get some sponsors to donate some kool items they are always welcome. While not exactly a door prize at the Stray Kat 500 (one of my favorite shows, and yes I have a Stray Kat plaque on my car's rear deck) we've sometimes opened our registration bags to find some cl***ic "small pages" book, some kool B.Scott Studios dash plaques, etc. We don't really need another local insurance agent's plastic key rings or the like. Meal Ticket: I'd say if you have the option of no entry fee vs entry fee, giving a meal ticket to the entrants is a good thing. Not everyone will take you up on it, but when it's hot and you've driven your car a long way, anything free is a good thing. I'm no expert on shows, I go to a lot but most of them as a spectator not a participant. Again, having a kool crop of people show up can overcome a lot in a show and make people want to come back the next year. Not having vendors with drinks or bathrooms can make a hot July day miserable and make people leave never to return. Good luck, I'll p*** the word on to some people! Travis
Thanks Travis, we would be glad to have you. I believe Perry Sr will be headed to Salina the following weekend for their show. We will have porta potties, and possibly a few indoor facilities, and there are pop machines, as well as we should have atleast the basics of soda and water available in addition to the machines. Brian
A show trying to be a major national show started in KS 2 or 3 years ago, and as I walked around in the summer heat I realized they'd put all vendors in 1 area right next to their johns at the center of what was basically a mile diameter show space. When it's over 100 it's a bit of a pain to walk all the way back to the center just for a water break. I noticed they fixed that the next year
Anybody else with helpful ideas or opinions on registration goody bags contents or importance? We could also possibly do just a small handful of trophies, like, Furthest distance traveled and peoples choice from voting (just 1, or top 3). So far, Im leaning towards Free, with a meal ticket and possibly just a few trophies, handmade or bought, and a drawing of the entrants, or a paid raffle for some give away items. (I am asking a few sponsor possibilities, and will find out soon) Thanks, Brian
Hmmmm.....July 21'st.......Middle of Nebraska.......Also, how about, Free all you can drink ice water..... Hmmmm.......Raffle tickets....two for free dinner at Chances R.... Instead of those mini bike races some of the others have at their shows, and since it's in the middle of July...How about a contest to see who can make their ice cream cone last the longest outside? I'll be there..... HellRaiser
Anybody like doing Burnouts? Ive talked to the rest of the Bradshaw Days Committee, and sounds like we will have a section of street designated to do so! (EDIT: Burnouts are not going to happen after all because of liability reasons) Ive updated the flyer a little bit, and am still working on more sponsors, but here is what it is looking like at the moment. Sounds like we will be able to do a few trophies also. http://www.siebertcustom.com/Carshow.html (PDF file on the webpage)
Newly updated Flyer with sponsors and activities http://www.siebertcustom.com/files/Bradshaw_Car_Show_July_21st_20124.pdf Still working on more sponsors.
Well, we would prefer no new daily drivers from the car lot of course, but no, not really a cutoff for this year, the idea is to get a bunch of cars and people together for the show and the rest of the activities. If you wanted an idea of preference, it would be from early 1900's including, resto, streetrods and inbetween, up to early 70s with the addition of some of the later musclecars of the 70s and 80s. Hopefully a low or limited number of 90's and above, but maybe there are some unique car builds from then also. What did you have in mind? Brian
Hellraiser..Not exactly what you asked for, but, How about 2 Sunday Brunch Gift Certificates from Chances "R"? Some of the other stuff we have so far still with quite a bit to spend is.... A cl***ic shop barstool, random orbital air sander, various tools and kits, % off discount coupons, Roy Boy Productions hardcover picture book of midwest carshows "Best of 2011", shirts, hats, koozies, coolers, collapsible armchairs, ratchet straps, car care products, miniature working toolbox coinbank, shrinking discs, and much more! Any realistic suggestions of prizes I will consider, post them up.... Getting quite the list of Sponsors and Prizes to give out! Here is the newest Flyer as of tonight......and will continue to be updated on..... http://www.siebertcustom.com/Carshow.html Mid next week, I should have the Bradshaw Days Schedule posted up too, for those of you interested in the rest of the activities. Brian
Here is the final version of the flyer. The burnouts are not going to happen after all, because of insurance and liability reasons, but we do have quite the list of prize table sponsors, and that means lots of prizes, and some quite valuable ones to boot! http://www.siebertcustom.com/Carshow.html
Prize Table Picture Up! Larger picture with zoom on the website. http://www.siebertcustom.com/Carshow.html Brian
When i lived in G.I we would drive up to 50 miles for any kind of fun! sounds like a blast even though it's in Bradshaw
Hopefully we can make Bradshaw Fun for the future! Duck, if you decided to come, you just might be a good candidate for the farthest traveled trophy. Brian
Wow, just saw your thread. Wish I was working enough to afford the gas to get there.... Not that long ago I worked for the York News Times. Sounds like a good time
Interesting! It should be a good time. If some of you guys cant make it, at least let your friends know and p*** along the info, maybe some of them could make it. Hoping to have a good turnout, and get it going again so that it can continue in the future. Brian
Nice job on the event guys, Travis has given some very good opinions. I will let folks in the Omaha area know and hope some guys cruz out. I will alert the Grand Island dudes on this as well. Hope to make it to the event. ~sololobo~
The only problem that I see with this is the date. You are competing with Cruise night in Kearney, NE. That will probably kill your participation. One should never compte with a show that is as established as ceuse night. Just my 2 cents worth
Oldsman, I would love to not have to compete with them. That is not what I am trying to do. Hopefully, since Kearney is a multiday show, people who want to, can either swing by Bradshaw first, and then hit Kearney, or vise versa. Or pick the one that works the best for them, some may choose Kearney, some may pick Bradshaw. However many decide to come, we will be happy with. Just because I feel like better informing you.....We are working with Bradshaw Days and the Judd Hoos Band which also have to have dates and schedules to work with and around, and we have no choice this year. The prior weekend, there is a show in our neighboring town less than 10 miles away, and the following weekend is the Salina Kansas show along with others. It is impossible to have no conflicts, we can only do our best to minimize them. Bradshaw Days used to always be the last weekend in July, and Perry Sr. used to run the car show, up until about 5 years ago. He wanted to attend the Salina show and the Bradshaw Days date was unable to be changed as per the committee at that time, so he quit having the show. I am taking charge and trying to bring the car show back this year, as I think it was a good thing for everybody and I would like to see it come back and stay alive. The only reason Bradshaw Days is a week earlier, is because thats when Judd Hoos could be scheduled. Since I am helping with both the car show, and Bradshaw days this year, and maybe in the future, I hope we can minimize conflicts and have better communication and find the dates that work best for all, compromising in the middle, as all the activities compliment each other, and for a small town like Bradshaw, they should do so, and work together. So, we are doing the best we can, I apologize for any inconvenience or ill feelings.
Hope you get a strong turnout. Please post up a ton of pics. Havent been that way in AGES, want to see if any rides I remember are still on the road
we do a free show. people love it. we feed them breakfast and lunch, and give them a free raffle entry. we had two bands this year and a well programmed Ipod. i made most of the trophies. we raised almost 2 grand for charity. here's how we pulled it off.... we held it on our property, we are already insured to the teeth, we put it in the annual budget. we got O'reilly to sponsor, so they brought the swag wagon with lots of giveaways and they sponsored the two big trophies. we got the two bands to play for gas money and lunch. it was for charity so they were glad to help. we got lots of local businesses to donate gift certificates and merchandise: restaurants, chiropractor, clothes, jewelry, etc. etc. we got our food vendor to provide meals at a reduced cost for participants. we have non-profit status so we were exempt from a bunch of fees. we maxed our property this year and next year we're gonna need to get the city to let us close the street to meet the demand. i think the year after, we're gonna need a new location. people keep telling us that they'd be more than happy to pay for a show like ours. why? because we treat them right. the cars are the show and the owners deserve to be treated well. good luck on your show!
We'll see how it all goes. But consider how the "Rust Revival" has progressed over the last 6 years. Thanks to Breeder (Todd) and the little ole town of Wayland. Bradshaw and Wayland are about the same size. (Bad news for Bradshaw...the cops over in Wayland are a whole lot more forgiving). Consider, both towns pretty much have equal access to nearby larger towns with the motels and BIG CITY amenities. But as Alteredpilot says....Free is good Seriously though, Alteredpilot has some good points...Make it a charity if possible. Get some of the deep pockets the help sponsor. It's the cars that bring in the spectators so give them a break on most items that might be for sale. Hand out tickets..."Chits"...that the participants can use like money for food or beverage items when they register....No register...No Chits..... That way only the participants can spend them. Others pay cash. I don't really see the conflict with the night cruise over at Kearney. Their deal is at night....Bradshaw's is over somewhere around 4 or 5, so there's plenty of time to drive on over to Kearney, Take the back road...Hwy 34 and enjoy the scenery....Duh....more corn fields..... If you're going...you'll have to bring shade. HellRaiser
Thanks for all the input! Its too late to change much now, as we are getting really close to the show, but I think we have a good show setup, and you guys should enjoy it! By all means if you come and have feedback to give me, let me know either when you are here, or by means of posting on here or PM. I will take it all in and re read all the posts on here for planning of next years event. Thanks Guys! Brian
I will make it but probably not before 1pm, duty calls back here in KS. Looking forward to seeing the show and the town.
Travis, no biggy, we will be glad to have you when you can make it. I will be anxious to see some of the pictures that you take. Ill have to get with you at the show and chat with you abit about your pictures and such. A mutual benefit type of conversation. See you there!
