I am in process of buying a 51 Caddy from a guy in Connecticut and he says it has no ***le and is being sold with a bill of sale only. I've dealt with a few southern states that just don't have ***les. I tried searching but didn't really end up with the answer I was looking for. Anyway- Do you guys in Connecticut with old cars have ***les or just go by your registration?
I bought my 61 Lincoln out of Connecticut and it was sold the same way. Sort of weirded me out at first because we dont have that here. When I got it home Washington State issued me a ***le.
No, Ct DMV does not issue ***les on vehicles over 25 Years old. I've sold a few vehicles out of state and no one ever had a h***le getting them registered. When I sell the car I provide a Bill of Sale and a copy of my Registration. Todd
Thanks guys, this is exactly the info I needed. Looks like I'm heading to Connecticut to pick up a Caddy.
some cars still have ***les, check the cars registration, it will have a spot near the top that says; ***le and then a y [for yes] or an n [for no]. if it has a y and no ***le you might have a problem.
Check your state DMV statutes first. Some states will register a CT car only if it comes with a current CT registration. And other states will just take a bill of sale without a reg. Ct did not issue ***les with new cars until 1959, and when I grew up in the 60s, we did need ***les on any age of car..... but a couple of decades ago, they did do away with ***les on the older cars again. Kind of made a mess for the out-of-state sales IMO. Records do not get saved beyond 3 years, so in most cases they can't help trace back for an old ***le number. We can register a car without a ***le here, but we cannot get a new ***le when we do register it.
Older cars currently registered in CT can be sold out of state on a bill of sale and copy of the current registration. Most states will honor that sort of paperwork, it doesn't hurt however to discuss this with the DMV in your home state. As a side note, if a CT resident registers an older car from outside CT they do not have to (and should not) present a ***le from another state. The CT DMV will take the ***le and destroy it when you register the car. I keep the ***les and only present a CT bill of sale, and a VIN verification form, as well as proof of insurance and the car will clear. There is a process to re***le older cars that have a ***le but it is so damn difficult that most people just p***. Jim M
