Granted, maybe not be exactly HAMB material but close enough? '64 Rambler American Had a 360/904 laying around the shop which ended up fitting more than perfect. Then bracing it came around and one thing lead to another. Wheelbase ended up altered +/- 5 inch in back. Straight axle to come. Comments/opinions?
Rambler / AMC had some cars with great styling back in the mid to late 60's. The early Javelins and AMXs looked a lot better than the later ones.
What'da'ya' mean "not exactly HAMB material"??? Hell, "dare to be different"! Old Nash, Rambler and AMC cars are cool and your 'straight-axled, altered-wheelbase' build is extra-sweet! Doubly-nice too, that you're running an AMC engine. A definite "thumbs-up"! Mart3406 ==========
Hey thanks a lot, but sorry that's a chrysler 360, not amc. Now its got a chrysler 413 in it... and some paint
Oh well, still very cool...and since Chrysler ended up buying AMC back in 1987, a 413 Mopar is now 'kind of, sort of, almost' - by default anyway - an AMC engine!! Mart3406 =========
I got my handle Rogueman from a 68 Rambler Rogue my dad bought new. The Rogue is the American with the hardtop body. I would love to build it back but mostly go to the pre 63 events.
Way cool man... !!! My Dad always had Ramblers when I was in high school, so I had to drive them when my jalopy's were broken down..and get laughed at by the rich peckerheads.....(until it came parking time with the gals along the lake and I put the seats down... ) Great car you have, and as stated above, definitely a HAMB friendly one too.. Cheers,
got the straight axle tacked in this weekend, not sure about the height yet or where the wheels will be set for good
My friend has a 65 4 door American with a 318/727 in it. My 64 american has the AMC 360/904 in it. I think the 64 and 65 americans are the best looking years.
Cool AMC g***er build. Kinda bummed ya didn't go with AMC power ,but at least its not a belly ****on chevy build!
mocked up the engine and oil pan was hitting the axle so it was either put on a rear sump pan, or recess it about a foot. Guess which direction I went (please excuse the hack job)
Broke in the cam this weekend, no horrible fires or engine destruction = success. Just finish the front of the cage, steering, brakes, bracing, fueling, dash, firewall, tunnel, wheel wells, suspension, and I'm hitting the races. Shooting to have it driving by Aug 18th, Atascadero car show
Bent & tacked in the front of the cage this week, mocked up the column mount, made the trans crossmember, Then sat and pondered for extended periods of time deciding how the firewall will work its way in there
Hey, us Wisconsin guys love the Kenosha Cans, Kelvinators, or whatever you want to call them. One of my favorite cars I built was a '70 Javelin: dual quad 307 chev, 4 speed Pistol grip shifter on the Powerglide, '69 Roadrunner rear end, fibergl*** Camaro fender flares on the rear, roof & trunk spoilers, & wild fuschia, purple & blue over white paint w/ pink pearl! $1200 invested & it stopped traffic.
A Cheese head dropping a Chevy in a Rambler??? Oh the horror!! Charley Nash is rolling in his grave... ;>
