Ok I need some advice here,
I’m getting ready to order some gauges for the Auburn style dash that I’m putting in my 1929 coupe,

I am a bit torn between the AutoMeter “Old Tyme” or the Stewart & Warner “Wings”
Both would look awesome both are a great deal,
Please voice your opinion and post your photos,
Thanks Gilby!

I know people have been vocal about being displeased with the new SW's. But if faced with the choice I would go with the SW's, because even though the new wings are nothing like the old wings, at least they're somewhat believable. The AutoMeter script stands out like a sore thumb to me.

the size is an issue, that a bummer that they don't interchange with the other brands.. that's why i'm checking it out first...

on another note:
what bit or buffer do you unse to get that engine tuned look?

I like the S&W. The logos are better.

the S&W wings do it for me in my forty. A little more nostalgia- traditional appearance. Truth is, do what YOU want!

I'm running those exact SW wings gauges in my '32. I like them, I just wish I had gone with an electric speedo. The electric speedo is simple and quick to get dialed in.

Not to sidetrack this thread but could you show us this q-tip dispenser modification?

I've got SW Wings in my car and haven't had any issues with them in 6 years on the road.

I bought some Autometers for our Merc, and although the Old Tyme faces look good, Autometers are made mostly of plastic and just seem cheap to me.

I dont really care for the Auto Meter name on the face of those gauges, other than that both of those types look pretty good. I've got a set of SW's in my Comet (non wings) and havent had any issues with them. I've used Auto Meters in a couple of cars I've had in the past and they also worked fine.

I have the autometers in my A. The gas gauge sticks and you have to tap the gl*** to get it to work. Gives it character... That's what I tell myself anyway.

But the autometer logo doesn't blend very well. I went with them because they make a small OD tach. My five gauges are symmetrical - tach - gas - SPEEDO - volts - water. I don't need oil pressure because its a banger and it doesn't have any!

If you check out NTAPHSE's thread about his 2 door Kaiser build, there a part where he goes into adapting auto meter gauges for the cluster...part of that he talks about wiping the numbers off the gauge face with alcohol or something. I wonder if you could just remove the auto meter nameonly...

I prefer the Autometer as here 60mph is our limit so it's nice to have it at the top . I have the Autometer gauges in a car and the speedo was super easy to programme.
