howdy! I have been looking at different threads, and things on here for quite some time. I am in the process of building a rat rod, i bought it a couple years ago, and has been alot bigger project than i had anticipated. I actually just decided to rebuild from ground up, i will probably use quite a bit of stuff off the model t I bought. Im getting there though, got my ch***is pretty well put together and im ready to drop my engine and ******. The pictures in my album are of what i had bought. let me know your thoughts, hoping to get some ideas. Thanks!:)

    Good luck with your name

Plan the vehicle to look the best it can and not just an abstract collection of junk

So... you came to the HAMB for help building a r@ rod, and after one post you're already an alliance member? I gotta be missing something. Welcome just the same, but the RR word wont make you any friends here.

I seriously doubt that you comprehend the written word. If you have poked around here for any length of time then you would understand that a "rat rod" is considered a ****box by 99.9% of the folks here.

Well, at least you can practice your building skills on that car. Thats a good thing. None of us now would think that something we cobbled together 40 years ago is cool today. So just build it the best you can with what you have but don't go "rat" on purpose. You can do better!

Well hey guys, I'm sorry if I messed up on my first post, just trying to let you all know what I had, and where I'm trying to go. I guess I got a lot of learning to do.

I too am new to this site. But I am not quite as young as you, I am approaching middle age. I was a late bloomer and I blame that on my career as well as my limited finances.
I am hoping to give my young lad a head start so that maybe when he is your age he too can be found building cool cars.
My son just turned six and I am gathering the parts to build a SBC and I have learned the value of buying used name brand tools from sites like this one.
It is my intention for me and my boy to build a motor together, beginning maybe early next year. Then we'll find something cool to put it in. And maybe, when he is sixteen, he'll be somewhat prepared.

    Well, enough rambling,

    Welcome to the site.

Sounds like an awesome plan! Being able to build something with your own hands seems to be a dying art, it's good to hear you are p***ing it on to your kid, thanks for the welcome!

Like I said, you have a pile of parts.

Now sit back and read, look at pictures and see what you can do.

I think a roof chop and a shortened bed would look OK.

Then fix all the rust and paint it, even if it is rattle can rustoleum.

Well, that was what I had first bought, after standing back and looking, it was a pos, and we have started from the ground up, I should probably put some pics of our actual build in progress, so mainly I'm going to be using the cab, which is very rusty.... We got a new frame and and all new suspension off of speedway.
Planning on chopping it, channeling it, and dropping a 429, with a 4 speed in it. We are just finishing up rebuilding a ford 9 inch, as far as paint goes I haven't thought much about it, also have some hurst pie crusts on their way here :)

Post some pictures - sounds better that the other plan.

Suggest that you try getting in and out of it before you chop and channel it into submission:D

Unfortunate name aside, welcome from the Salina Area. Stick around, see the way it used to be done and mimic that style, it will never go out of style. The rat thing will die out and then all cars built like that will look as dated as a 90's built street rod with pastel swoops down the side ;).

You drop a 50 spot and become an "Alliance" member and all you get is a boot in the McNuggets.
    Welcome.....
