    All,

I have a 292 Y block and I need a bellhousing to connect the 303 transmission to the yblock. I found one for sale and I want to verify from you y block guys that I am buying the right bellhousing. I have a line on a two different standard shift bellhousings the part # AG-6394-B and AE-6394-E.

    Any insight?

Also I have the complete yblock 4 speed truck setup and it is all new. Can I use the clutch fork from the 4 speed or do I need to purchase a different one? How about the clutch and all the other goodies? Can I use anything from the current setup or do I purchase all new parts? If so what parts do I need?

If you can email some pictures to me, I may be able to help. Casting numbers mean nothing to me. What is it going in? Car or truck??

The guy did not send me any photos but he tells me that it is a car 3 spd bellhousing. He does not have a digital camera to send me any photos of the housing that is why I am nervous about the transaction. The y block is actually going into a 27 model t that I am building so my only concern is the 303 mounting to the 292.

all the 3.03 3 speed transmissions i have seen have the "new" trans bolt pattern and won't bolt up to the y-block bell. maybe you got lucky and have one of the dual bolt pattern ones?

The Y block forever guys tell me I can use the passenger 3 speed bell with this setup. It seems the y block forums are down alot so I cannot even seems to get back in touch with the guys over there. Unless they are blocking all california traffic!

do you have a pic of the trans bolt pattern?

this is the bolt pattern on a y-block car bellhousing. all y-block manual trans bells have this pattern.

this is a toploader trans with a dual pattern. most don't have the dual pattern and only have the outside 4 holes. if your trans doesn't have the dual pattern, it is incompatible with the y-block.

Not to be argumentive with General Gow but when I swapped a rug 4 speed into my 57 Ranchero I just had to drill the inside set of holes in the transmission. Easy but maybe some transmissions don't have clearance for the bolts?

My three speed trans from 69 galaxie bolted up to Y block car bellhousing. I had to put trans bearing retainer in lathe and turn down slightly so it would fit into bellhousing register. I also had to cut off trans input shaft 1/4", did that witha die grinder and just sanded the tip a little to duplicate factory contour. Full synchro trans.

yup, this can be done. and i think that all the wide bolt pattern trans have the space to do it, now that i look at them.
