No but it IS a Traditional Rod & Custom site...NOT Ol Skool Rodz![/QUOTE]

I would say that oil signs riveted to your door is not traditional either but thats what you like so you did it don't bash him for what he likes. At least he is not putting yard gnomes on the hood and any other goof ball item he can pick up at a yard sale like the "rat rods" you see in some of the other crap magazines. I have had a few cars in OSR that were tradtional style Kustoms so in my opinion it is a ok rag but they do put crap in from time to time. There are way better rags out there but not everyone has got clued in on them or has access.

  5. Well I suppose that when I was younger and a little more addle pated I may have done the same thing. While I may not do the same thing today it does remind of of a certain tub that a fella named jake pasted hot rod magazines all over the outside of. of course it was the '70s then and he may very well have been addle pated.

  7. I think he was making a statement, although I am not sure what he was trying to say. Maybe relax, don't take life so seriously? Or maybe he was asking a question, maybe duh do you do da bong? :D:D

porknbeaner,,back in the 70's overindulgence with different libations could be a major factor in a lot of things we did.

BTW,,I've always been a fan of the original Frankenstein,,Just not on cars,,the big screen. HRP

Darren..have you actually LOOKED at this site? Or just grabbed the keyboard and started posting?

You're right... we don't like anything modified....

  10. Yea probably pretty hard to separate culture from actions.

I know that I am way off base but I believe that theme cars belong in theme parks.

  11. That car was on a completely different level!!

Nice car, just loose the RR styling and all the Z's! Traditional Hot Rods and RR's have a vast chasm between them, settle on a side before the rope bridge falls.

    Doc.

    Some thoughts

    1) I consider Frankenstien (original) one of the best movies ever. Karloff brought gut wrenching emothion through all that makeup and prostetics. Brilliant.

    2) I like the concept. What I would do though is decopage the sunvisors instead, and use accent colours to carry the theme through the car. There is a makeup colour (former Threatre major) called Frankenstien green. it's a grey-green they used on the creature and would look cool as an accent colour in the door cards and maybe tied in with knobs and buttons... maybe a bobblehead? (just spitballing)

I hid the speakers in my car by covering them in cheap black "car" carpet from Canadian Tire It's like utility carpet you would use to cover speakers and such. Looks and sounds good. no ugly speaker grilles

That isn't MY car with the "oil signs" on the door...that car was built by a friend that has passed away, we honor his memory by taking that car to Bonneville every year. I wouldn't have built it that way, but we aren't about to change something he did...okay?:)

Jesus, man! Couldn't you find a 4 door or something? Merc hardtops are kind of a Holy Grail. You're liable to have the villagers out with burning stakes and a rope, here on the HAMB. No offense intended, but this is not the car to do clownish things too. Take a look a some that are done as tasteful mild customs. It'll probably fit your budget and you won't be ridiculed here. Thank about it. Please.

Guess you have never seen anything cool in that magazine? Lighten up it is his car and if you don't like it you don't have to look at it. If we all liked the same thing we would all be fighting over the same car and same parts that would be the same color and that would be boring. I like to see something different from time to time to keep life exciting.

If you want a tip on hiding the speakers, take a look at how Hotrodprimer did the ones in the back of his 54 Ranch Wagon.
I like the way you did the treatment, but think its out of place in that car.
I do like the fact that you thought ahead and made a second set of patterns to change it out later.
Thanks for yanking the collective chain.

"cept it's too low to be "traditional" and it's got horrible wheels that are not "traditional" Come on (in general..I'm not picking on you.. sorry) . His car looks good ('cept wheels) Nothng wrong with it.. don't like the door panels? so what he does. and he gets to look at them.. not you.
