Home on leave and took a drive to confirm truck was still there. Can only see it from the road. My wife went and talked to the homeowner during my first Iraq deployment...that was about 7 years ago. Confirmed it was a 32 Ford pickup that had been sitting in an equipment shed for over 30 years now. The bed was removed and placed in the next stall. It's an equipment shed so only the front is somewhat covered. Rest is exposed. I'm just curious as to what would be a decent starting price to offer as I don't want to insult this older gentleman....but I'm not getting any younger and I would really love to rescue this truck!!! I know there's different variables to consider prices but lets just say the cab, frame and front end are in decent shape to restore. Would $3500 be too lowball?
Without photos we are shooting in the dark but if it is a 32 and the condition is good and all the fenders are there 3,500 would be reasonable, but I wouldn't start out that high,,you can always go up,,1,500 to start. HRP
Ok, thank you sir. I'll see about talking with the gentleman when I come back here in December. Thankfully the winters are somewhat mild so I'll see about hitting him up before deploying and getting photos! I did find an Ebay auction with a 32 complete starting at $5k and BIN $7k....but that's probably in better shape since it's been in a barn.
Good to have an idea what you'd pay, but best to have a "starting price" set by the seller. Hard enough to determine condition from pics...pretty much impossible without 'em. $3,500 may be a tad on the low end, but not insultive...esp for a vehicle that probably needs everything. And what the hey...as HRP said...shoot low...you might get lucky. So good luck!
feel him out, and try and get him to spit a price out to ya, you never know, he may want an insane amount or $500 bucks to finally get it out of his way so he can park his tractor in there! pics do help..
HRP, just looked at your 32 P/U....that's exactly the look I'm going for. I love the stance, stock roof, full fenders, etc. Only thing I'd do different is engine and the green. But the thing is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Can't you get them to throw out a figure first? The owner ought to have an idea what they want for their stuff. Better look it over good if you are going to make an offer, sometimes these old trucks got pretty beat up and may not can tell until you get up close. I think 3500 is too high for an opening.Thats what I paid for my 34 and after I got it home I realized I paid way too much. Should have just started with individual parts because of all the rough stuff I had to discard.
All the advice you've gotten so far is right on. I learned a long time ago, "It's only worth what somebody's willing to pay for it." No matter what it cost in the beginning, be prepared to spend a lot more before you're through.
I was thinking about the same thing. The last duece pickup project i saw went for 4,500 the fella was askin 4,800. But it came with a full house flatty and a '39 ****** with zepher gears. That was about 4 years ago when the economy was still solid and the truck itself was a lottle worn but not a rust bucket. Anyway I think that 3,500 is real reasonable and no doubt way more then the old fella gave for it.
