I recently removed the rear end for a 1950 Ford F1 budget build that I am starting. No surprise that the rear leaf springs were broke. I purchased a Ford 9inch from a fifth generation F-series (1967-1972). The size and location of the mounts for the rear leaf springs match up perfectly with the original rear end. Considering I want to maintain the original rear ride height, and being on a budget...Can I use any leaf spring that matches the weight and measurements of the rear from any truck or do I have to purchase an expensive reproduction? Things to consider: I will be installing a Jag IFS I will be using it to tow a 1950ish small Aerostream It will be at times used as a truck I will installing a late 60's mustang gas tank in rear
I am buying my springs from this company and are cheaper than Mac's: http://www.generalspringkc.com/default.asp?pcsid=bf7385eb15972820b5d09c48207a6856
Might look at the posies slightly lowered spring pack which is cheaper than a stock set and will lower the rear 1-2 inches. With the 9 inch having larger axle tubes than the stock axle may only get about an inch lower. Have a set on my F1 in my profile and am happy with them.
The cheapest prices I have found for F-1 gear has been through Hotrodtrucks. They have stock replacement springs listed for about $165. http://www.hotrodstrucks.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=236
I bought a set of two leaf springs (two leaves per spring) with reversed eyes form Posie's for my 52 F1....lowered it 3" and it is still used as Henry intended....Can't remember the exact $$$ amount but I think the pair was around $300.00.....got a pair of two leaf units for the front too.
the original leaf springs had 10 leafs per spring and two of them are cracked, the smallest two. The curve on the spring still looks good, what if I just take those two out. I know usually you remove every other one. I wonder how much the first two little springs are needed
I just bought two brand new stock replacement leaf springs from http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=17696 for $300 plus a july 30 coupon for $30 bones off...by far the safest and best deal
