hey fellas, i'm hoping to get approval from some pros on my metal/rust plan before paint. There's some areas where almost the entire panels are badly pitted. Media blasting is not an option. I'm punk*** broke. And I'm trying to stay away from metal prep solutions that require being washed off with soap and water. MY PLAN 1) 80 grit entire body to bare metal and 36 grit on heavy rust spots. 2) use OSPHO as a metal prep with a wire brush to scrub rust from the pitting. I'll apply OSPHO, scrub, wipe, repeat. After a few cycles of this I'll wipe on a final thin application of OSPHO and let it dry. This way it's a metal treatment. 3) spray PPG DP epoxy (which is compatible with Ospho). I guess my question is if it's cool to use OSPHO as a metal prep to scrub out rust, wipe clean, then reapply OSPHO and leave on as a rust treatment (as intended). Thoughts? Thanks fellas Ted www.BrooklynLeather.com
So looks like i'm painting my first car. it was yellow when i bought it. i stripped the body and it had a ton of rust holes and pitting. my buddy Flop in Pittsburgh cut out all the major rust, did a roof chop and new back window shape. i did a quick rattle can primer over the pitted rust while i lowered the car and drove it a bit. Now i'm going to remove the ****ty primer, remove the rust and shoot some PPG primer and do the filler work. I'll be starting soon so any other tips would be great. thanks fellas. ~Haywire.
