I have four cars in my little garage and I think its time to build a new garage but when do you quit spending money on cars so you can build a garage??
I got a good idea why not let me take a few of those babys off your hands that way you save money and got lots a room. Just tryin to help is all. John
If you can afford to, you better do it now. The prices of building materials arent getting cheaper. I'm finally going to build a bigger garage but it looks like the biggest I can go is 26X40. and the city scrapped my second driveway idea.
I'd also be happy to take a couple of those off your hands. I had to build mine when the paint fumes in the house got out of hand. Funny thing is, I haven't sprayed a drop since it's been built, but I sure love the room.
hmmmm....I just built a new garage, to park 6 cars in, now the shop has only 2 cars in it, taking up the space that 4 were before. Usually you can tell it's time to build a new one because you can FINALLY afford to do it.
When you sign a multi-million dollar contract with a band called "Part Store Manager" Or you could just borrow some money from that rock star that lives at the Grote Ranch.
Mel no matter how big you build it, you will fill it up. My dad has a 40x60 shop and until I sold a couple of his cars he had 7 cars and 8 tractors inside...you couldn't walk anywhere
Just remember, "the size of your garage will always be inversely proportional to what you can afford to put in it"
I force myself to one project at a time, no matter how good the next deal is. When it's done then I can look for something else. Mine is 24 x 36 and plenty of room.
Mine's only 1800 sq ft. I built as big as I had room for...........I've never heard anyone say "Damn, I built this thing too damned big!" The time is NOW, you'll wish you had done it a long time ago!!
i'm definitely not preaching here, i'll be the first to admit i'm a fuckhead, i'm not better than anyone else (just ask my wife ) BUT... ever since i was 14 years old, i've had at least two jobs at the same time, the most ever was three simultaneously. what i'm sayin' here is consider getting a part time job to raise some extra cash for a new garage. it's not forever, and you can go into it with the mindset that you can quit at any time if it is really too overwhelming, you're not stuck there to just get by, it's all extra cash. that line of thinking has taken a ton of pressure of my mind and allowed me to work stupid hours every week for years at a shot. you'll get less sleep, but i'm living proof that lack of sleep will not harm you, and besides, there's plenty of time to sleep once you're dead. an average night of sleep for me is three hours. i'm not saying do what i do, but just consider working a little extra. you'll be suprised how quickly you can raise some cash, and once you have what you need, it can be over, back to your normal routine. when i bought my first house in 1998, i saved $12,000. in about nine weeks. i suprised myself with that one! when's the last time you saved six grand a month and still payed all your other bills on time? i never have and haven't done it since, but if i need to now, i know it can be done. i say NOW is the time for you to get a new garage. you deserve it, right? and you certainly would enjoy it, right? SO GO FOR IT! nice garage you have now by the way. sorry if this post sounded gay and preachy... tred.
hell, i thought this was gonna be about 'what time of year', should you build it. you know, take advantage of slow times for framers, concrete prices, etc.. i do need a new garage and driveway, with a more accessible counters, tool boxes, big-ass stereo, tv, cable, heat and air, phone, bathroom, chaise lounge, decorative fountain, draft beer set-up, stripper pole...you know, just the basics.
SHEEIT! it looked to me like Grote had two buildings with hardly anything in them. so what if they have dirt floors. drag all that shit over to his house and let him store it ... i can relate. i've had a 56 Chevy in my garage for about3 years and it's not even mine. ofcourse if i'd finish the work on it i need to do i could get rid of it .....
I just made the decision. We had some $$ and I could have finished my car in the driveway or built a garage. So I did the garage, now I have no $ but this winter I can work on my car in a nice warm garage instead of the driveway! Build the barn before you buy the cart or the horse!
