I have been searching the archives and couldn't find an answer to this...

What sort of mileage are you guys getting our of Deluxe Champions? Just curious.. I have put about 8,000 miles on mine since last September and I appear to be around 60% tread left. I had figured 15-20k out of a set.

6.70-15s, running factory pressures, 54 Ford Fordor. Lots of 70-80mph highway use and pothole city where I live.

I'm up to around 11,000 with a lot of tread left.

Sounds about right to me. 15000 - 20000 on a set of tires was typical on bias plies in the fifties and sixties. Maybe 30000 if you puppied around. VW's were considered sensational because they would go 50000 on a set of tires but they were a very light car with no power and 15" tires.

20k was stretching it on my wife's dart in the early 80s with the old Firestone bias tires.

Ive done fifteen thousand miles on my roadster with 16" firestones, I reckon they are still at 80 percent. my car is light, 1000KGs . they seem to wear really well.

If you got your hands on an old set that had hardened, you couldn't wear them out.

Thanks guys. Figured they'd last a lot longer on a light car like an A or a roadster... Wonder if the higher speed driving is bad for em wear wise? I've been told these are only speed rated to 85-90. Just did 100 miles on them today cruising at 70-75.

I used to go thru them pretty fast in the '60's. 15k was about it for me.I bought a pair of snow tires when I lived in Wichita. Drove to Texas at 80 and wore them out by the time I got home. 500 miles.

  10. Have a set that I ran at least 10,000 miles. Pulled em off to change the look of the car. They were also very hard & shaved by an old timer.
