Nice paint job. Betcha that when the car sells it will be priced with a 8K paint job.

Thanks for all of the comments guys ! The paint job exceeded my expectations. The roadster will be my daliy beater... driving it to work 50 miles a day...shopping....wall-mart...etc. It runs a flattie (8BA) with two 94s connected up to a C4 tranny.

I did not want, nor could I afford a $8000 paint job. I chose to use base/clear since it is SOOO easy to fix a spot. I will drive the piss out of the car.... I rarely wash my cars (as some of you know)... so I was not looking for perfection or show quality. But it does look damn nice now :) Yes, OMNI is the cheap crap.... I was told just put enough on and you will be happy.

As far as cost and process goes....

Yes, I had shop supplies which I did not count, welding materials, sandpaper, and beer :). I tend to buy it all in bulk, so it's cheap in my opinion. I use rolls of adhesive sandpaper for the idiot stick that are $20/roll. I probably went through a total of 2-3 rolls of various grits.

I took the body down to bare metal (no glass in this car). I panel beat it best I could to get the dents out. I replaced 1 rear and 1 front fender (both bought from Hambers)

I bought a gallon of Bondo from wall-mart for $20. I did my initial fill and sand until I was at a place it looked 'better'.

I use industrial epoxy sand-able primer....$100 for 2 spray-able gallons. I used 1 gallon for $50. Very similar to K36...but much cheaper with less shrinkage. Available only from 'Viking Paint' here in Minneapolis.

I guide coat it with contrasting bomb-can paint. Filled the low spots with either more bondo or 2 part glaze for the very small areas ($30). I did this about 6 times. The Roadster is extremely straight now.

With a complete coat of epoxy primer on it, I wet sanded with 400.

Sprayed 4 coats of base, 4 coats of clear. I needed a gallon of reducer (slow for the HVLP system)..... another $25...I'm starting to go broke at this point :)..... 1 hour between coats.

Wet sanded with 800/1000/1200 .... bought in bulk of eBay.... 10-20 cents / sheet

Buffed with Wizards products.... about $20 of product.

So... I guess I lied a bit.... It may have gotten closer to $350 if I add in the primer, bondo, and all of the shop supplies...now the beer... that's another story :)

Thanks to you and Titus, I have one heck of a nice roadster. I am glad you chose the color for me.... However, driving it around on July 4th in a 106F heat I was wondering if black was really the best choice :)

BTW, I get lots of compliments on the fine stitching job of the top and seats !

I'll bring it by sometime !
