So i sold a car recently (o/t). And now i have an open spot in my garage... I want to build something but im not sure what. Thinking late 30's or 40's. Something that not everyone is driving...

    Any ideas?

Early 40s Mopar? I think they have the best lines of all!

Quite often the next project jumps up and finds you rather than you hunting it down unless you are set on one particular model.

At one time I would have pretty well taken what ever came along but these days I'd decide exactly what I wanted to build and stick with it. I'd suggest figuring out what you really would like to have as a hot rod or custom and go with that.

41 plymouth coupes are great cars and not too common.

I know this is a real open ended question, and for that i apologize. Its just every time i let a project fall in it turns out being a muscle car... Im tired of building them. I got my 68 cutl*** and im gonna leave it at that... Not deff gonna keep the next car i build, just really wanna build one of that era cars while putting my twist on things, and not for a customer. I kinda like that 41 plymouth, Keep them comin guys.

Budget... I like projects that start around 2-4k for the initial car. I can do all the frame, sheet metal, wiring, trim work, most mechanical, No upholstry. Not really fishing for what others want cause I dont want any model a's, 39-40 fords, tri 5s, all the normal stuff. I really wanna build something thats not seen very often... Mostly fishing for ideas...

I agree with a 30s-early 50s Mopar. If you can find one.

    Nash or Studebaker..
Some of those can be made to be a killer custom and you won't break the bank...They also look really neat.
    Cheers...

IMO, Whatever you chose, just "finish it". That way not everyone will be driving one. Went to a local show yesterday and 1/2 the cars were in a perpetual state of "incompleteness". Normally that's completely acceptable but some of these cars have been that way for the last 5 years:) I have to agree on a '41 Plymouth making a nice "Kustom". good Luck!

I think it all depends on what you really want to do with it. Everyday driver? Then a roadster is probably not for you. Weekend cruiser? Something with utility? Then perhaps a truck. Need something that seats more than 2 people with comfort? Then a truck and a coupe are probably left off your list. Something that the entire family can enjoy on a cruise? Maybe a wagon or a sedan? Just saying that the question is probably best answered by choosing something that you'll enjoy for a long time, so that you don't end up with the same open spot in the garage in a few years. :)

1937 Nash. Great art deco lines. I think there are a few on eBay right now. They don't come around very often.

    Here's mine.

Doesn't matter. Just hurry up and get something in that spot, fast! If the wife sees that spot, it will be gone forever. :)

  30. My dream sled car is one of the mopar late 40's three window coupes.

Think all of their flavors had a three window. Sometimes called a "business coupe". You can picture google Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler and DeSoto and amid all the clutter see a few three windows.

Saw one at the SRN two years back with a very tasteful chop.
Kinda makes ya weak in the knees to see one....
