I was surprised when I asked that very question at the transmission shop that we had my Kid's th350 in for repairs about a year ago. They told me they hate rubber gaskets and only use cork, and to put them on dry. They feel the sealants shrink up after a while and leaks can happen. I took their advice, put a quality cork on on, and no leaks so far.

Like everything else, there are probably a bunch of different opinions on this one though.

i've always used dry rubber gaskets and have never had leaks at the pan afterwards. i used sealant exactly one time, and it leaked. that was with a cork gasket--not sure if it was the sealant or the cork or some combination of the two but i've used rubber since.

I agree about the rubber gaskets. We use only cork. Rubber gaskets and chrome pans are in my opinion, no-no's.

No sealer....and make sure the pan is straight, clean the case off, and tighten the bolts to the correct torque.

ive never used any sealer on a trans pan. i also use rubber gaskets with no problems.after i unfold them from the box i let them sit awile with something on them to help them stay flat. then i use a little grease on the pan lip and put on the gasket.never had a leak.i do know a guy that used blue glue on his and when it dried he really had problems. seems he put alot of it on there and it broke up inside the pan and stop up something which in turn burned up a ******.

The best trans pan gaskets I've ever used are FARPAK or Armstrong ACCOPAC.

They're not rubber and they're not cork, but more like a black fibrous material. I was able to purchase one the last time at 'Whatever It Takes Transmissions' which is nationwide.

I like rubber. My biggest pet peeve with cork is, it will split if even slightly over tightened. Cork in my book is very unforgiving.

I vote no for rubber gaskets or chrome pans.

Like another poster recommended the black fiber gasket is best or 2nd best would be cork install dry no sealant. Torque to 100 to 120 inch pound.
