I did a search for this but didn't see an answer. I was curious why the body style on 1932 ford would be very similar to a 1932 chevy, 1932 Pontiac etc? I've always wanted a '32 5 window Ford, but the '32 5 window Pontiac looks almost the same. Just wondering why two seperate auto companies would build very similar cars.

    Thanks, Bill

a 32 Ford looks nothing like a 32 Chevrolet. you just need to take a closer look.

How far away are you standing from both of these cars?

Did not Murry make the 3 window body for Ford? This is the reason that it looks more Chevy then Ford. Check out the body lines and lower windshield and cowl lines and see if it does not look non Ford. Good question.

Same...no, similar...yes. Cars of a certain era follow trends of the time and have always been that way.

Who cares???? if you like the way any other car looks dont let the '32 ford Bullshit chase you away, find one an build it, Screw '32 ford, the only things that set them apart is the they had no sunvisor(like model a's), the doors didnt overlap the body(like model a's) and the newer flatheads (and other motors with adaper kits)were a bolt in

    Look at today's cars.
    Most all look very similar.
You can hardly tell what make the car is without looking at the nameplate. :(

The 32 Pontiac is a larger vehicle. It will have more passenger room. It is also a lot more difficult to find pars and pieces for. They should a lot less expensive  than the 32 Ford stuff because the demand for them is a lot less.

Buy and what you like and can afford :D

I cant see much difference between the 32 chevy and pontiac.

I can see the difference at the front of the window from a ford. but cant find a decent pontiac picture to compare.

EDIT looks like the solid bar that runs the length of the body is what different. the chevy doesnt have a solid one, it has 2 rings top and bottom.

  9. I think Duece Roadster answered the question best.

But, as far as choosing a car to build, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I certainly understand the bias towards Fords with the traditional hotrod history and all, not to mention the all steel vs. steel & wood construction, and the many other arguements that have been made. But, me personally, a 32 Ford doesn't come close to a 32 Chevy or 32 Pontiac as far as looks are concerned. And, I appreciate all well built cars, but a Fords have been built so many ways that it's just hard to find one that stands out to me anymore. I like em different:D

Thanks for the replies. I think if you take the fenders and front grill off and look at the bodies only they all have a similar shape . I would think Ford and GM would have had a little more diffences then they have. My wife also reminded me that she can't tell the difference between the new charger and new challenger and maybe that it's me that can't see much difference. I fell in love with the american graffiti '32 and said someday I'd own one like it, but I now think I'd rather find a 30's Pontiac.

  11. By '29 Harvey Earl was designing for GM (that had merged), not just Chevrolet, so there are many similarities betweeen Chevrolet, Buick, Olds, etc.

Here is my 32 Nash. Similar looks to the other 30s cars but totally different at the same time. Size, roof height, tail pan, body lines etc. etc....
