On May 2nd, our first child (Aka, Bob Racecar) came into the world. "The world," for me, is filled with ******* 2-seaters, chopped coupes, and bench-seat pickups. In this modern day of mini vans and baby seats, I am a little behind.

It didn't take me long, however, to fit my round peg into the square hole that is known as the "real world."

Here's my solution and the pictorial story to the ever-growing family. I'm just as thrilled to have this sitting in my driveway as I am to have that awesome, little poop machine in my arms.

I've wanted a hot touring car ever since I saw some photos in one of Don Montgomery's books. Then, BigCheese327 posted a photo that put me over the top. One thing lead to another and here I am typing this, about to load photos of a car I'll likely never get rid of.

Here they are... click on the photo to get to the larger images.

The tipping point. Anyone know where this photo comes from?

    A Chassis FS.jpg

The ch***is that popped up locally, the DAY AFTER I secured the purchase of the body. Weird how that happens.

    Chassis Home.jpg

Here it is, sitting in my driveway. It was fairly complete but needed so much. You know how that goes.

    T Touring 2.jpg

Pic from the previous owner. It's VERY solid.

    On my way home.JPG

    On my way home.

    On my way home 2.JPG

A closer view. At this point it's starting to settle in that I've got this car, now.

    Unloading.JPG

    Unloading by myself.

    Unloading 2.JPG

Thankfully the garage is packed with all the contents of the house, which forced the ch***is to be outside. It made it easy.

    Instant Hot Rod.JPG

Voilà! Instant hot rod. I then took a cell phone pic and sent it to a bunch of my buddies.

    Instant 2.JPG

Another angle. Imagine it black, hopped-up banger, lowered a few inches, chopped windscreen laid back, tanned leather seats, some tires (hahaha). Can you picture it?

    Firewall Mod 2.JPG

An old firewall mod. I've got a firewall coming to replace it. It's a pretty decent job, though.

    Tin Installed.JPG

Some tin placed in. These cars are roomy.

That's because you play with those super-desirable cars. Your kids will grow up cl***y. Mine are just gowing to have to putt around with me. Hahaha.

Thanks man! I'm thrilled on both accounts.

I have twin girls with a third baby on the way. I'm thinkin' the whole family won't fit in my truck (unless I bolt a seat in the bed...hmmmm). They're gonna have to ride with pops in the sedan, because I can't even think about another project right now. Good on ya for both of your new possessions.

Thanks, man! My wife and I plan on having one more. If we had twins I guess I'd have to sell off the hotrods and get a custom.

Are you going to run the model A fenders? Mine is fender less, on a model A frame and I was thinking about getting a set of 28-29 fenders for it.

Cl***y out the ***y is my families mantra on the family crest. However I'm sure that's accurate since I build rat rods.

I hadn't planned on it, but it looks pretty neat with what's there now. I was planning on t******* the aprons so that my brake rods were covered.

If I can find some inexpensive '30 fenders I'd set them up to see what I like best. I think fenders would be really neat on this car but if it didn't get them I wouldn't feel bad about it.

    What do you think?

Congrats! My wife and I are expecting our 3rd currently. I knew the four door would come in handy (I only had one kid when I bought it).

Haha, you need help, man. :D

That being said, I am thinking about clearing over the "patina" to retain its charm. Sound good? :D :D :p

*****in'! Your son's a lucky little dude. I was cajoling my parents for a T touring or a '57 Bel Air from age five onward, and here he's born into it.

I have found myself leaning more to fenders for some reason. Since mine is not channeled and on a "A" frame is why I was thinking 28-29 fenders, but I'm not sure how much work getting the rears to fit the body.
Also if you find a reasonable place to get the top bows could you let me know.
As far as family, we have 3 teenages left at home and 2 of them are starting to want to go to shows more ( mainly to shows with bands ) so I traded the TT Truck we built for a 41 chevy sedan. After I got the touring they want to ride in it more than the sedan.
    Heres mine..

Not to hi-jack but would sedan rear fenders work or would it have to be touring fenders ?

I can't tell the difference between the actual fenders, honestly. The aprons I can tell. I did some searching and it looked like I could run 28-31 fenders with everything I've got, based on what I read.

As you can see, I've got all 1930 stuff. I may bring the fronts over to Deviator or Salt Flats Speed Shop to get them into shape. The p*** side has a nasty crack/separation and the driver's side has a boogered up weld holding the apron and fender together.

Great. Here I've been coveting one since I sold my last '26 and the prices are gonna start soaring once the rest of the cool kids find out. Hurry find me a cheap one before that happens or, someone go scoop up the $150 roadster in Crescent City, CA since I don't know anybody up that far in CA. I wanna be cool.

  21. If you're ever looking to adopt an adult son, who is stable, has an income, and lives on his own, I'm willing to putt around with you!

    Waddya say, pop? :D

In all seriousness though, congratulations on the car. I want one of those so damn bad!
And even more congratulations on the kid. :)

No problem, although you may be older than me... hahaha. We'll skip the birds 'n bees talk and just go grab a beer. :D

Thanks on both. I'm looking forward to all the trouble he and I are going to get into.

Dude, you've got a SICK model 40 sitting in your garage. Get cracking on that and leave the T stuff to us. It's bad enough to have Chris 700 miles away scooping every cool item up in sight. We don't need you hoarding, too. (Says the guy with bodies on pallet racks)

Thanks! I'm not sure why my wife didn't want it on his birth certificate... everyone calls him that anyway. :D

  26. One of these days when I get out Utah way, I'm going to hold you to that!

I'll be paying attention to this build.

HAMB family is always welcome, Son:D.

As far as a build goes I'm going to keep it simple. I've put a lot of projects onto my plate BUT once my house is done and we're moved into it, I'll be getting my hands dirty on this and the 20T.

You see, JJ, that guy hoards stuff that runs. You and I just have cool stuff to look at. Well, wait, the 35 is a runner. So, I pretty much just have stuff to look at.

Once Bob can hold his head up and isn't so much of a slinky, I'll get some proper hot rodder pics of him.
