It is the home of Bob Johnsosn who owned the 1984 "king of Mercs" called So Fine . It was a candy red 50 chopped Merc. He also owned Sweeter than Wine which was a famous candy wine 40 Merc convt. Last I heard he had a 40 purple Merc covert.

apartment costs? housing costs? ---no idea im living in dorms

quality of life? --seems good to me, big enough cities to have anything youd want but small enough to not get lost forever or overwelmed

H.A.M.B. life? --seems like more and more trad stuff is showing up. theres some trad clubs in omaha

I know down here in odessa tx there is like no car shows, gatherings, anything. unless you count the 10-20 of the same cars that show up at sonic on saturday nights. I know in southeast iowa you had to wade through car show flyers and figure out which ones to go to that weekend.

---yeah i can think of at least one "show" per night between omaha and lincoln and thats just the every week stuff and its usaly alright. theres a few that are just the same shit every time but pick and chose and theres some good ones.

and its still the same with flyers, if theres one thing to do in iowa/nebraska its a car show lol. they have them for everything. new bank?=car cruise new street?=car cruise, its nice out?=car cruise haha

I wasnt expecting the offer i got and ill see how things pan out. just need to know if someone can make a living there on 22-24 $ per hour.[/QUOTE]

im not positive, ill let some other ppl chime in on expensise with cost of living in this area as i havnt got any realy. but id say youd be fine on 24 an hour

I am here in Omaha. things are good . there are atleast 4 weekly cruises. Some are lame, some are over crowded. There are some traditional clubs and a great new rockabilly band. The cost of living is pretty good , you can make a liveing on that money.

The cost of living varies as too how far you want to drive to work.

Omaha apartments (nice ones)in the $600 to $800 range ,houses about the same.
If you want to drive 25 miles to work you can cut that almost in half.
Small towns seem to be a lot of car gathering ,shows, ect. Lots of action 8 or 9 months out of the year.
Big retail business have discovered Omaha/C.B. and are building as fast as they can.
New convention center with a lot of concerts and stuff.
And then there is the Casinos,I don't attend but a lot of folks do.
Traffic is O.K. most of the time but rush hr. can back up.
You can get a good steak dinner for $11 in one of the old steakhouses or pay $28 at Ted Turners place.
Gas is $2.08 today on the Iowa side.Fully nude Gentelmans Club handy right outside Council Bluffs ( if you enjoy that kind of thing).
I do not see a lot of nice daily drivers ,but maybe that will tend to change someday . Several large swap meets handy , U-pull -its up the wazoo. I think there is only One speed shop type store in town.

If I can help let me know, I live in Glenwood about 18 miles from omaha. A nice small town where you can leave your stuff out overnight and it's still there in the morning. Best of luck.

  8. I have not read the thread but pm me if you want I live in Council Bluffs - I can get you any info you need. Maybe able to answer any questions. Hell I need a hot rod neighbor. My neighbors all think I am crazy.
Probably has to do with car trailers full of "junk" they see :D

BTW - who in the hell is a good employer in CB???

  9. This is funny how the stories grow about him.
Purlple Merch convert belongs to Kim Johnson - also here in CB. A current pic is in JK post with the Salina KKOA show.

I hear LOTS of rumors that Bob Johnson is looking for another 40 Merc. I know he has been gathering parts. That's probably all I should say...

  14. We have been back in Iowa for just over 10 years. We really like it. Our kids have thanked us many times for doing it. We lived in Colorado for almost 15 years - nice place to vacation. We lived in Houston too - wow - no comparison to Iowa. I have been to CB/Omaha many times - seems nice enough but they are always working on their roads in Omaha. We have driven through construction every year since we first went out there in 1973! Tom - restorit
