A few questions I am looking to find a recipe that I can use to make my own hammertone finish I have looked and looked and have not found an actual recipe all I have found is the spraypaints. So does anyone out there know exactly how to get this finish for a large scale project where buying 80 cans of spraypaint would not be cost effective?
Hammertone is the result of adding a Silcone Additive to the paint. I used to paint large scale equipment with combination of enamel and the additive. Maybe this will help in your rearch for a recipe.
I did a little research and came up with this supplier, you can call them to check if they still sell the additive: Hammertone additive pn 173003-001 Quaker Chemical One Quaker Park 901 E. Hector Street Conshohocken, PA 19428-2380 +1-610-832-4000
How long did the paint last with the additive? I did a grille with it but it seems to have deteroiated after a while.
ADDITOL® VXL 5905 is another additive. Cytec Industries Inc. 5 Garret Mountain Plaza Woodland Park, New Jersey 07424 973-357-3100 custinfo@cytec.com The scales I painted were seen on meat counters and hanging in grocery stores for years if that tells you anything. However, we baked them in the oven after painting them. I also painted all sorts of GM automotive plastic parts and we baked them too.
I saw Rustolium has some colors in quart cans. Try a hardware store. I have seen green, black, silver, copper. gold.
