If it is indeed original, the engine number on the side of the block will match the frame number under the drivers side cowl mount. That's the way they made them at the factory. They stamped the frame number according to the number on the engine block they were putting in it. They weren't VIN numbers, just manufacturing numbers. Chances are the engine has been changed somewhere in its life and numbers wont match. But if they do, you have a jewell and keeping it stock is definately an option. The mechanical brakes work just fine on a banger Model A. Adjust them right and you can lock up all four wheels. They are a kick to drive and get loads of attention. Be prepared to talk for 20 minutes anywhere you go with it.
Some variations directly applicable to 1931, as examples of the running changes: Early 1931 had a generally flat firewall with gas shut off valve under the tank inside cab. Late got a big dent in the firewall with valve on engine side of wall and a different carb...then, there were also transitional firewalls! Early '31 cab had cloth roof insert, late was all steel up there...late also hade a squared off pickup bed that was bigger and entirely different from '28-early '31 bed!
I tryed to get pics put on here today but the camera is broke. I will definately get pics on he tomarrow (I cant wait) I really appreciate all of the advice and comments Ive already learned alot and cant wait until im an expert on the model a. Thanks again
Nice truck! Enjoy it, learning along the way. One day it will all come clear the direction you want to go.
Nice truck!!! If you keep it all original you can join the AACA and store it in the garage for most of the year to keep it nice. Every summer you can get it out, shine it up, and enter it in the Fourth of July Parade!!! Woo Hoo!!!
I like it. It's a late 31 indented firewall. Get a Bratton's model A catalog. Full of good infor and good folks to deal with. Just drive that one, will be be suprized at the people you meet and leads you get. Have Fun
