Y block to flathead trans adapter

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by whiskeyridgeracer, Jul 18, 2012.

  1. I picked up my 292 y block. Plan on getting an adapter. Do I use the y block flywheel with a early ford clutch disk? What starter is used. Trying to mate my 36 toploader to the 292 with as little grief as possible.

I think the only thing you need is the adapter, everything else should work.

  3. Anyone else have any more info on this?

Stock Y block flywheel and clutch, flathead disc, make sure the pilot bushing is correct. If your 292 is a truck, you may be OK. If not, the pilot on the trans may not fit in all the way. Use the throw out from the 36 with a new bearing on it. Use the starter from the Y block with the shoulder bolts from the 292. No not overtighten the shoulder bolts on the clutch, about 12 to 15 ft. lbs is all those little bolts need. The bell housing bolts should be about 55 Ft. Lbs. to the block. The trans bolts to the bell housing should not be more than 30 to 35.
