Before I screw up; How do i wire a Toggle Switch to my Elec Fan that has a Temp Sensor that automatically comes on at 190 degrees. I want both Automatic set up that I have & manual toggle set up. ( I have Rebel Wire Harness and Zirgo Elec Fan)
Is the fan wired with a relay ? I wire the fan with a relay and set the relay so that ignition power trips power to the relay , then run the relay ground wire to the thermo switch . Toggle switch can be run from a ground source to the same ground terminal at the relay. Set up like this it will take care of itself , yet you have the option to manually activate with the toggle switch. Hope this makes sense . .
With relay sender post. add wire to post to switch and to ground this turns on when you want. The ign wire put switch in line with small power wire to shut off when moving. This way you can override on and off.
Do ti with a relay like suggested. And keep an eye on the Zirgo. They're made by the Hoffman Group and neither put out the air that is claimed or seem to last worth a damn. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=507950 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=584030
I thought that the Rebel wiring system had a gray wire that can be used for manual override for the fan. Last one I used seemed to have this circuit. Call Rebel tech. Guy is really good at helping out and suggesting fixes. If you do not have a relay controlling the fan I would deffinetly put one in. Pick up a auto relay at Radio Shack for 30-40 amp capacity.
And what Zman said^^^ I feel Zirgo is not a good choice for sure. I have used Spal and have never been disappointed.
Like 4t6 stated, you just want to create a ground, that you can control inside the car. Good insurance if your sender takes a dump.
Easy and simplest way to wire a switch in is to run the sender wire from the relay to the toggle switch, then from the toggle to the sender. Now you are in control, not the thermostat sender.
To run fan with sending unit you need a relay. Relay has 4 wires color are not all the same. spal relay speedway sells yellow go to fuse to battery red goes to fan These are larger wires Fan wire black goes to ground. sender wire smaller maybe gray. put wire to sender from relay, Now add wire to post on sender run to dash to switch and ground other end. orange wire is ign fan goes off with key. Now if you are moving and fan is still on to hot, and you want to shut off fan. Put a switch in line with orange wire ign.
Tag your switch to the relay like suggested, that way you have both choices to turn on the fan. I always use SPAL...never had a failure. Keep the relay as close to the fan as possible, that keeps the "hot" wires shorter & safer.
