Summer project,57 T bird

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tinbender, Jul 19, 2012.

  1. My summer cl*** didn't fill so I took on some metal work in the shop at home. A 57 T Bird. It was "restored" poorly, I'd guess 10 to 15 years ago. I'm doing the metal work to a much higher level this time around! Pretty typical rust, made worse by ****py repairs.

Day one, on the hoist for inspection / body removal.
Poked around a bit, and heated and s****ed some of the filler.

*the finger used is for depth of filler demonstration, and a general comment to all hacks! :D

  2. Most of the filler, even though deep is stable. The failures are from poor metal work.

Someone put rockers on it. They are coming off! the other spot is on the top of the fender. Overlapped with a few spots of br***.

Back to the shop........she's coming off the frame today.

I've got a '55 bird at work waiting on me. We had the body soda blasted and the right fender had over 1/2" of filler. Apparently, it was wrecked previously. The whole parking light /headlight area was formed out of filler. It need the usuall quarters. Probably rockers too. Compared to what am looking having to fix, your's looks damn good.

  4. We'll see. Someone put a LOT of undercoating on this. Always a bad sign. Or good depending on your point of view ;) (Looks like Tinbenders old house is getting some siding!) Body's off. Rotisserie tomorrow. Then we'll get her naked!
