Having living with the beast, (Ford retiree), I bet there was a more practicle reason for this. Maybe somthing happened to disrupt production of the forgings. Maybe a fire at the foundry, who knows. JMO

Steel rebel bucket with that axle..that nails the look.
If I found an axle like that I would be building t bucket behind it.

X-man: I went through the same thing with mine. I eventually took a pair from a beam axle and put them in my drill press and turned them down until they fit. Not perfect but it will work. I actually called Vern Tardel once and asked him if he did that or drilled the axle and he said a little bit of both. Having lost one axle possibly due to that, I chose to turn the kingpin lock bolt.

Chrysler and Dodge had tubular axles around 1934 but went back to the Ibeam when they weren't making IFS. Must be one of those things that looked good on paper but didn't pan out or maybe they cost more to make.

Thanks Wicked. I still see those axles at just about every major swap I attend. A guy had two at LARS this year. A pretty nice chrome one sold for $400 and a stock one for I think $300.

I met a guy in Minn. Back to the 50s from eastern Canada who built a Kookie Kar Lookalike who made his own axle. It fooled me until he pointed it out. It had the correct "smile" but wasn't flattened like the original. Nice guy, beautiful workmanship.
