Hey I have a stuck syncronizer hub on my ford 1938 transmission... I need suggestions how to make it slide again.... Christian.
I have no clue about those things, but if penetrating oil will do it, keep it wet with Kroil for a week.
How have you tried moving it...with the shifter only or have you opened it up and move the hub by hand?
OK, then time to take it apart. Is this just a transmission, or in a car? Did it stick in use or while just sitting? Anyway...Mount off the back, retainer of the front, start pullig stuff out!
More thoughts...I think it would be hard for this to rust without really bad circumstances that would turn whole gear train into a ball of rust. Maybe one of the little spring loaded balls has worn enough to move out of its hole and jam the hub and moving part. Assuming here original type '36-38 gear and synchro set.
This is a original 36 to 38 transmission i purchased to use in my project. It has not been running since i bought it. There is no visible rust in the case and syncro hub has a little play so that suggests one of the balls are worn. How do i get the hub apart if the ball issue is a fact ???
Remove the input shaft bearing retainer,..as well as the rear mount, which is also the output shaft bearing retainer. Nice thing is that Ford used all "caged" roller bearings, so you won't have to chase 'em all over the place. Once you have the fron and rear retainers off,..it'll almost fall apart. 4TTRUK
FYI.....the 32-38 style synchros used six balls and springs inside. It would normally take more pressure than your fingers could exert to move the outer sleeve from neutral into either gear. Your shift lever has enough leverage to overcome the spring pressure. If the lever won't move it, you'll have to disassemble the trans to pull the synchro apart and ID the problem. It's all in the book........
