I got the air hose in my paint job!

I just came in the house. Was painting the top on my 50 chevy. I let the air hose get up against the roof right above the drivers door.

It's just like me to make more work for myself.

 

just think to yourself it could be worse

But seriously, that sucks man, but props for spraying it yourself

 

sucks , i've done that too.... you can slightly see it in the JD blitz black on the car in my avatar

 

Get in the habbit of pulling the air hose over the opposite shoulder and holding the hose with your non spraying hand. The hose will lay on top of your arm and not the car. Make sense? Clear as mud haha.

 

I had a floresent light break right over wet paint once, whew what a mess. Coulda been worse

 

Call it "patina" and you'll double the value of your car.

The hard part is to evenly match the hose marks on the other side of the roof...HA!

 

I was unmasking a car once (prematurely) while the clear was still a little wet and the paper magnetized right into the wet clear. You want to talk about a mess

It did happen! I should have did a post on painting tips before I did this.

 

A painter friend taught me that trick many years ago. It works.

 

A hose falling on the roof isn't that bad, I once lost my balance and fell onto the roof.

 

Ok, so what should I do now? I'm waiting on tips!

 

from the pics cant really tell much. if it was still wet you could have worked that out while you still had the gun in your hand. many ways to fix it.let it dry and sand it smooth and reshoot is just one comes to mind.which is probably the best way.

 

Don't do anything as in, don't touch it. Let it dry and have a look tomorrow. You might be able to fix it with a blow in but will probably have to repaint the roof. But if you try to fix it now you will end up with a bigger mess, trust me.

 

Might be better off reshoting sorry did it with my tummy once.

 

it does suck. i always have something ruin a paint job. everyone here has. unmasking early dropping the paper on it, rub into it, or the monter twin engine bug landing in it

 

What you are looking at in this pic is where I drug my fucking shirt in the last coat of clear. Not cool at the time, but it sanded out just fine.

Is that base/clear or single stage?? It makes a diffrence as to how you are going to fix it, but either way, it is definately fixable.

It's just the base. No clear yet. I'm going to try lightly sanding and more paint.

I'm not going for a show car, just getting the white off.

 

Join the club. Painting is the most difficult, demanding, attention-focused thing a hotrodder will do. To lay down the perfect surface, you have to do hundreds of tasks correctly for a long duration, while wearing protective clothing, a breathing system in a dust-free, controlled environment.

It's why my work is such a mess.

Pay attention to the coverage. That streak may 'ghost' up through a light color coat. You may have to bury it with color. Some of the pro's need to see this. Take a better pix with more light.

I had a 4 ft. fluorescent light tube fall out of the fixture once right on the hood of the car just as it was almost done. That sucked! Glass and that powder from the tube EVERYWHERE in the wet paint. I think I'd take the air hose.

 

Yea, if it is just the base it ain't tragic. Just sand the area carefully with some 6 or 800 clean it and dust on the base, then clear it. Most base coats if not catalized stay open for a least 24 hours so you need to get on it or you will have to scuff the whole thing.

 

I did that a couple weeks ago painting the roof on a mini van. I leaned over a little to far, the step stool slipped and I fell on the roof. After painting for 10 years I still manage to find new ways the screw up.

 

Everyone has screwed up their paint, last year I was putting the third coat of clear on my Tbird and dripped sweat on the top, lucky it sanded out. Painted my sons Mustang white several years ago and ended up with an arm hair in the clear on the hood, just left it there, finally faded where you didn't notice it .
