  1. Not quite, maybe next year, when you get down in that big ol barge. :D

Funny you ask, as id figured on leaving the stock one in place untill earlier today, and then i spied the water pumps at Macsspeed.
Im on a slippery slope. ;)

You did, and i did. At the time, it looked to modern :D, and i decided to rebuild the original one. I also spent all winter on the bodywork, as i had less money and more time. Now its less time, but more money, so i can afford to get a little flash, before the cold slows it all back down again.

  6. Proof that i didnt have a lazy weekend.;)

  7. Just got another engine upgrade. Its a Ford Ten dizzy, and its a good old school banger trick.
LIFESTYLZ here on the Hamb sent it to me, and it fits like a glove. Im told that you need the older, gear driven one, as opposed to the later chain driven one. The later one dosent allow for advance/retard.

heres the little beauty in its new home.

  8. Hi kiwijeff

Just came across and read through this entire thread.
    Very cool truck!
I believe you are doing it justice.
I really like the direction you are going with it.
I wouldn't chop it either, just my opinion.
Did you get the engine unseized yet?

I will watch this till you are done.
    Nice work!

  9. Thanks for checking it out. Glad you like the direction im taking.
These things seem to take on a life of their own, and a lot of my original plans have gone.
The engine is still stuck, but im confident its only minor, and will free up easily. I had planned on doing it last week, but need to free up two stuck valves. A friend with the valve tool i need hasnt turned up, so im waiting for that.

  10. Here's a trick for you.
Pour lube in the cylinders, I know you have.
Put a socket on the crank bolt, put a long L handle,or breaker bar on that, put a long piece of pipe over that and hang a weight on the end of the pipe, like a pail of sand or rocks,or an anvil. Have it hang in the 3 o clock position, and let it do the work for you.
Probably won't be more than a day or two till you see the weight has moved down.
    This works.

  11. Thanks, ill do that. Should get a few hours tomorrow morning to get some work done.
I like your signature, very cool.

  12. Small update, we got the valves freed up last night, but the engine wouldnt budge.
We are going to take pistons out tonight if Kev isnt busy.

  13. Kev came around after work today, and we got straight into it.
I was the gofor, while Kev did all the work. :D

I took the split pins out before Kev arrived, and it didnt take long to take the caps off. Look what we found.

Everything is in excellent condition. So then we tried giving number two a shot in the bum, and up it came. Number three was the same. Unfortanatly, one and four didnt want to play ball, so Kev shot home and grabbed a big hammer. Those two slugs took some moving, but we got them. They are still very tight, so ive filled the bores with some lube, and ill mess with them some more tomorrow.
Heres a pic of number two when it came up for its first TDC in a long time.:D

Ive also ordered the correct tool i need to take the valves out, so Kev can grind them.
So its been a while coming, but thats how thing roll around these parts. Id have to say, im pretty freakin happy. :)

Cool truck there Jeff. Bit of history in this thread, I do acually remember that movie too. Not many colonial cabs have been "souped up" so good on you for giving the old girl a new lease of life.

  16. Um,........ no ;) to the waterpump, but im thinking your right on almost no work prior to being left to freeze up. Kinda sad, but also my gain.

Thanks Jimbo. Funny that i never took history as a subject at school, but i discovered i enjoyed it after leaving. Tracking down an 81 year old trucks history was/still is a bit of a buzz.:)

  17. The postman brought me some new goodies.
Gauge panel, oil filler top, radiator mounting kit, 12 volt coil, and new valve springs.

And heres my valve removal tool.

  18. You would think id have removed the "made in taiwan" sticker on the valve tool, before i posted up a pic.

Not a lot going on with the truck at present, but i did get some bling in the post today. :D

And the truck has moved to the other side of the garage, due to a Model A Phaeton coming to keep the truck company.

  21. Thanks Russ Tee. If you havent already heard, ive had it for sale for a few weeks. I dont want to sell, but a hot rod, already finished for the right price has got my attention big time. Ive had some intrest, and a guy drove down from Nelson for a look yesterday. He owns 11 Model As, but there was to much work left in it for him.
Im happy to keep it, so if it dosent go, (and im asking far to much :D) I'll just keep on with it.

  22. Its done. The A is sold, and will be replaced with a brand new hot rod by next weekend.
The guy buying the A is putting an 8 in it, so i will proberbly buy the drivetrain back for my speedster project.

  24. Ok, heres a few details.
Its a 29 Hudson sedan, cut down into a truck, and is on rice rails. Its running a 3.3 Holden six with an awful looking independant front end, also from the land of the raising sun. Its kinda a rr, but tidy.
Plans are for gloss black paint with a Gonk (and myself) flame job. Across the cowl and all. Triple carbs, headers, drilled visor, and raise the pick up bed sides level with the body band line. Basically, turn it into a shiny hot rod, and if i like it, and keep it, i'll ditch the independant front for a dropped axel.
It was first regestered last year, is certed, rego on hold, and owner thinks the warrant may still be current. This will be the newest ride ive ever owned!:Dl

  25. You sold the Colonial?
    Sad face

  26. Sorry man, i only have room for one toy, and the guy who brought the pick up is 23, and keen to AV8 it. Im going to see if i can get him on here, and teach him the good and the bad. Hes a mechanic whos played with hot rods with his dad. I think the trucks in good hands, and hes keen to use my advice.

I get a brand new hot rod (although not entirely Hamb friendly) thats running, and only mainly cosmetic changes to make it pretty. :D

I can see its going to be a long week.:D

  29. The pick up went to its new home yesterday. First time it had been outside since i brought it home.

We chucked it on a trailer, and took it to its new cell, whoops, i mean shed.

I was watching it siting on the trailer, ready to leave. Figured i should be feeling sad, but i have been more than compensated for my loss.
The new toy is so much more fun.

Should be painted, and fully legal by summer.
