I'm installing an amp in my car thanks to Ryan's post (hidden tunes via an iPod) and I want to use 4 JBL speakers. I was given a Laznar Vibe amp for free, but it's 2 channel. I've read good and bad things about wiring in series or parallel, but I wanted to get The HAMB's thoughts. Which have you guys done and why? Thanks in advance!

If you wire in series it will double the resistance of your speakers, making the amp work harder. 8ohm speakers wired in series become one big 16ohm speaker. Wire in parallel and it will sound better. However, the amp was made for one speaker per channel. I would stay with that and add a second two channel amp or just use one four channel amp and save the free one for another project.

actually its the opposite, higher resistance makes the amp work less. When does an amp get hotter running at
2 ohms or 8. A Vibe should be 2 ohm stable so two 4 ohm speaker in parallel would be safe, and if they're 8 ohms that would be perfect. Just remember you don't have to turn the gain all the way up.

You may want to buy a four channel amp and save the 2 channel in case you want to add a subwoofer later on.

What are the exact amp and speakers you have.

You need to know the OHM ratting of your speakers and what OHM load your amp can handle. There are no PROs and CONs of series VS parallel you simply need to match your load to your amp.

Post the model numbers and I can tell you how to wire it.

As long as the JBL speakers are 4 ohms each and as long as the amp is 2 ohm stable, run two speakers in parallel on each channel.

Ok if you were planing on putting two speakers up front(doors) and two in the rear ( package tray), What i would do is just run the two up Front. Your not going to hear the ones behind you much. Now I'm a car audio guy I do the big systems go to the competitions and such. One thing to remember in sound reproduction when you go to a concert the speakers are in front of you not behind you.

Or just put all four speakers up front in one in each door and one in each kickpanel

I don't plan on saving the amp for another project. I only have 2 cars and right now one doesn't have a radio. I'll check out the front speakers soon. They're mounted where the kick panel should be and I plan on moving them into the stock location. And as for not using my back speakers, I'm sorry, that's not happening. They're already mounted, I just have to rewire them. Not trying to be insulting, I'm just trying to make what I have work, not ask if you'd scrap it and do it differently. But thanks, everyone for the advice.

I have not seen a Lanzar Vibe amp that wasnt 2 ohm stable. And as long as hes not putting 2 ohm JBL subs in for speakers everything else JBL makes are at the least 4 ohms. Two 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel is a 2 ohm load.
