Anybody have hood louvers that look GREAT but goin down the road get alot of heat from the motor thru the cowl vent? I have a '48 chevy pick-up with 85 louvers and 1 cowl vent that ****s the heat and fills the cab while driving down the rd. I'm wondering why i couldnt get some sheet magnet and cover the underside of my hood till i get where i'm goin then just remove it when needed?( for show or whatever) would it get too hot and the magnet fall or what? I'm looking for other ways, any body? Thanx, Hotfoot
Yep, Louvers and a cowl vent are a recipe for lots of heat in the cab. I don't know that magnets would hold, but if your hood has braces underneath you can make a metal inner liner that would keep that heat from escaping. I did this years ago to keep water out of the engine compartment when it rained, it just had six small sheet metal screws to hold it in place, and a foam seal around the edge ~ couple of minutes on or off. Either that or keep the cowl vent closed!
Actually, just head out to your local sign shop and buy a sheet of the magnetic sign material they use for car door signs and your in like Flynn... Doesn't scratch either! 'Course, you could alway keep the cowl vent closed too. Bet your louver guy didn't cover the cowl vent inside heat thing with ya, did he?
hotroddin , thanx for the help but i was wondering if the heat would make the magnets come down. Louverman, My louverman did say something bout the heat but I wanted the louvers MORE! I think i will see about getting some magnet signs and stick them up and hope they wont fall. Thanx guys!
I run a louvered hood on my '40 Chevy and use the cowl vent a lot on road trips. Negligible heat from the louvers. Around noon though p***ing through central Nebraska on the way to where ever I usually close it up and click on the A/C. Especially if my wife is along for the ride. Charlie
