I have some old-new Firestone wide whites and white is way wrong for the car. Plan on turning the white in and painting it black. What might be the best product for this? This is an open wheel car. Thanks: Fred A Talking about the tires on the Model A Pickup, going to another roadster. 550-19
There used to be a product called tire black. It came in a pint can, it is paint to do what you want to do. Two, sometimes three coats cover the white for life.
I'd think you should trade / sell them and get what you really want. Or spend the next few years worrying about them, or re-doing them, or kicking yourself in the *** for not doing it right while you had the chance in the first place. Gary
Ha Ha! When I was a kid in the 70's my dad used to flip cars and paid me for cleaning and detailing the cars. I went through Tire Black by the gallons! Sometimes I found more change under the seats than what my dad paid me.
I use Dupli-color black bumper spray paint takes about 3 coats and one can does two tire sides. It's used for dashs and rubber parts. It holds up very well. I had some on a tire and it lasted 3 years, then I got new tires and did the same thing. It's perfect. Just be sure to wash the tire before hand, do medium coats and let dry between coats. Just follow the directions on the can. It doesn't wash or flake off,IF you put it on right. My first set of tires, I used it to cover white lettering. My present set, I used it to cover the factory white wall. May not cover as well on a wide white wall. But cheap to try.
I remember that stuff. I used it myself to "clean up" the look of my black wall tires on my Nomad. I also to use a gl*** polish in a pink metal can (kinda like br***o) on my windows. Getting back to the tires, dude, sell or trade your tires but don't paint those wide whites. It's not a smart thing to do.
the "stuff in a pink can" I believe your referring to "Gl*** Wax" that was the product name it was a pinkish cream that dried to an opaque white film. The maker used to sell holiday stencil kits to decorate your windows "Apply and let dry it's that easy!" once the holiday p***ed you just wiped off the dried cleaning wax. the stuff did make it hard for pranksters to "Wax" your windows on Halloween.I'm not sure Gl*** Wax cleaner still exists. With Armor All etc. out today does "Tire Black" still exist? it was used to dress up old tires the same as Armor All but also blacked out white walls that were whipped!
Paint a set of Firestone WW's black? I think that's considered a capital punishment in at least five states. Any ways back in the day we used to spruce up our tires (read: fill in the weather checking) with tire black. I didn't last long. If you didn't bump it off on the first curb, it would eventually begin to crack.
It is open wheel. Tire Black was what we used to use, I have heard of fellas using krylon fusion ro make whitewalls so I don't doubt that it would work the other way if you had black instead of white. But like some have already suggested peddle the white walls and get yourself some blackwalls or see if someopne wants to trade.
I have traded Blackwall (or narrow whites) for WWW in the past.. just do that... don't mess up what someone might really really want.
PLASTI-KOTE ULTRA VINYL , SEM VINYL & PLASTIC Works Great . Also works good to change wireing colors . Spray Can Paint stays STICKY !
tire black in the can has been discontinued because of the EPA saying the stuff to make it is bad for the environment....I just bought a water soluble quart of tire paint from Miller Tire in Ohio...419-335-7010...just mix with water...paint it on...it's permanent. $19.95+s&h.
