Broke an axle yesterday. 1948 Ford Tudor Sedan. Banjo Rear End. Am I going to have to pull the hole rear-end...seperate the halves to pull old shaft and install the new? Thanks I have been into cars my whole life. I am 36...grew up in the woods of North Idaho. Learned to drive picking up hay in a 1958 GMC Fleetside. First car was a 1966 Mustang Sprint 200. All I ever did was tinker until my Subaru commuter blew a water pump. I was broke and had to fix it myself. Light went off in my head...and bang....hot rod projects, and everything mechanical I could get my hands on. 1948 Ford Tudor Deluxe 1953 Ford F100 Derek
Nope ( sorry Sawsall )....you can do it in the car......remove the wheels and brake drums from both sides ,prise out the axle key from the r/h/side , remove the spring from the l/h/axle housing ( easiest way is to use the spring spreader and leave it in place, just drop off the shackles from the l/h housing), take off the l/h brake backing plate and drive out the radius rod bolts, remove the shock absorber link then undo the bolts on the l/h axle housing and remove it, then slide out the whole diff center and axles as a unit......then you can go about changing you axle.....good luck, Colin.
