Here is a car we are building. Cole, if you read this, this is the one you saw in bare metal last summer. Notice the tape measure in the one pic . Lots of subtle work on the roofline. This is on a Morrison air ch***is, aired out it will kill ants with the front crossmember!
Colorado custom used to (if they still dont) have some similar to those, i think they were called "valdez". That car just abou tmade me have an "accident". beautiful.
its a real nice car, so far, but the "nicest merc in the world" wouldnt have "me too" 59 caddy tail lights.
I applaud the fact its SKIRTLESS and "SPOT"less .......and a damn fine example-I might add!...ever since I saw Roger Wards dark Brown -open rear wheel welled merc, back in the '70s I have not seen a Merc I liked with skirts. OH! OH! OH! lets burn the sacrificial -fuzzy dice- while I'm roasting those trends!
I don't know man, I tend to not like skirts overall but mercs to me just do not look right without them...but to each their own. I with you on burning the dice though
We have to keep our ***les straight, there's the nicest Merc and there's the King of the Mercs. There are two Kings I believe. Anyway, that really is a nice Merc. Looks like a mild chop, about 2 1/2"?
OK, the ***le was just to get you fools talking! But, since I am involved in this one I consider it one of the most subtle Mercs ever. Pics really dont do the Merc justice, this thing is LOW. The wheels are Billet Specialty 17ers. About the only billet type wheel I like are these and others that look like hubcaps, funny huh? As for the chop, it is 3" at the windshield, posts layed back. The roofline has been thinned from nothing at the front to something significant at the rear of the 1/4 windows. This allows the side gl*** to be taller than the chop but less than stock. 1/4 windows dont get that "squished" look. Rear window is stock, it was mostly cut loose but not all the way. Roofline was pushed forward. Of course the B pillars are slanted and door top corners rounded. Chopping it this way means you dont need to make large filler panels for the rear of the roof. The rain gutters also are unmolested this way. Trav, thanks man, you need to come out here some time!
If this is the bare metal Merc I saw in your shop after the Drags last year - it was shapping up as a winner then. looks great
LOL ***le was effective Ya know, its kinda funny, i mentioned to Dawn that i voluntered to come out and help ya set truss, or toss bails or whatever ya needed done the other day, and she said "that would make a nice trip in the '54 next summer. . ." i guess thats her subtle way of sayin "get your *** in gear on that car so we can have some fun in it"
You know, Ihave always dug the Hirohata buit I actually consider them as totally different styles. Hirohata=tradtional Hills(this one)=modern custom
Dont you dare have a poll about that... maybe our kids can have a poll about this subject but these are two totally different cars.sure a merc is a merc these days, but this one may be a merc for our times.the hirohata merc that is legendary! and some day some kid may say this merc built in early 2000`s is legendary! right now though it is a well built merc, not a legend! beautiful car man i cant wait to see it done...just my 2 pennies! 00 Mack where are you?????
Brett, this is the same one. I forgot you saw it also, I couldnt get Cole to stop rubbing the metalwork! The color really has more orange and Pearl in it. I will get better shots as it goes together.
Thats a really good looking car...i don't care for the wheels much, but i don't have to 'cause it aint mine.. Really nice none the less though!!! Personally i like the car's with mods that make you think and are not over powering..ya know, well planned out.. This looks like that type.. I'm looking forward to seeing it all together to get the whole picture.. That color is a LOT like my chevy's color.. I like it
Trent, you rule....the wheels though, they're a lil too much on the low rider style. I can't wait to see the car finished
man that is some of the most meticulous work i have ever seen, kudos on a phenom job! i like the b pillar angles, cars height, chop is nice and subtle...not crazy about the rims, but definately ive learned to each his own! great work, and i swear that car is straighter than it was stock! only thing i would say is the rear end treatment starts to wander off into "played out" territory...for a car that high end, and it is awesome, i think perhaps some taillite treatment that 24 other customs at a cruise nite wont also be wearing would have been more effective, and ive never been a rolled pan guy, but they do look more at home on high tech mercs, and this thing is stellar!! cant wait to see it done!
Hey, we can nitpick anything. Wheels, easy to change. Tailights? not so easy but the owner went with them after he decided the stockers were not up to speed. I am just glad he didnt have us do the molded in LEDs! The pan is our recreation of the stock one that was missing. It started out as a 51 valance and Jason built the rest. It actually gets bumpers, they are painted for now, he is looking for good ones to chrome!
Hey man, all I did was provide design input and help in the parts selection. This was a whole shop project, we did the first cuts in a afternoon with all of us bouncing ideas off the customer. I cant wait to do something similar on my 54!
NICE. i like the roof and the laid out stance. color ain't bad either. i woulda liked to see that in bare metal to see where all the cuts and splices where made. it's amazing to see it go from that to finished and smooth as a super model's ***.
Here ya go, lots of layout and cuts. The driprail picture was left that way for dramatic effect, looks like hell! Rear area had some relief cuts, they got hammer welded and worked with the planishing hammer.
