I have a late 90's 2WD S10 rear axle, it is one of the 54.5" (10 bolt) 8.5" Xtreme axles. It had rear disc brakes that are gone (rotors/calipers/brackets)...as long as I need to find another complete disc setup..figure may as well bolt in a larger set (ie Camaro?) Is there is a larger OEM unit that would bolt up? FYI: I have one of those axles from a 2001 Xteme with drum brakes that really fits my 33 fendered Chevy coupe nicely.
Light car I doubt that you really need big rear discs but you shold be looking toward firebird or even corvette for brakes if they are a must have. I think that multiple piston calipers could be had on either. The firebird (T/A) the same rear as the one you got.
The axle doesn't have a car yet. It's an extra one that I'd like to setup and put aside for future use. Just trying to determine which OEM disc setups are a direct bolt in to the S10 axle. If "F" body brakes are the same size as the S10..makes the part finding easier..(BTW: no need for Y body brakes). thanks
try kore3. they are a company in autralia that makes brackets to bolt on corvette c5 and c6 set ups to different vehicles. I dont know if they have a s10 set up, but with some welding and cutting you should be able to make it work.
10-4...that's what I'm trying to avoid (ie custom brackets, cutting, welding etc) just need to know if any larger OEM stuff bolts on...if not the standard S10 brakes are fine for anything I drive.
They all use the same rear until you get into the bigger corporate rear ends. You could even rob brakes off a late impala and they would bolt right up.
Off the top of my head, no. Not a five lug GM type bolt pattern that will bolt up to the four bolt C clip type axle housings anyway. Although the rotor is 12" and will fit inside a 15" wheel, the aluminum PBR caliper has stiffening bridges that will not clear the inside center-section to hoop interface on some steel wheels. So be careful on what wheels you intend to use. Yes. But it is smaller than the F bod and was used on the 4wd/AWD models that had a wider track width due to axle length IIRC. GM was pretty good at maintaining the same brake backing plate to axle flange distance the same on most of their 2wd vehicles over the years.
There were rear discs on 2wheel, 4 wheel drive, all wheel drive and the zr2 models. its hit and miss tho,
It's very common to see S10 trucks and S10 Blazers with rear disc brakes around here...I can locate them all day long. Like I mentioned the 2WD unit I have...had disc on it. I need to get another complete set and figured if there was another "Larger OEM Bolt On" ..may as well install the larger diameter rotor. If I'm gonna go through pulling the axles to remove the mounting plates (which I need)..would prefer the largest rotor "bolt on" setup I can locate. Considering the axle already had disc brakes..I won't need a spacer either. (The 2wd disc and drum rear axles have different widths ie 1/4")
I don't believe there are any other brake setups that are just going to bolt on. They had pretty decent brakes on them, I think you would be fine to put the original type stuff back on.
Late 70's RWD Cadillac Seville disc brake should be a bolt on..........I say that because I removed a set from a Seville and replaced them with the drum brakes from an S-10 8.5" axle, so the reverse is certainly doable. You will have to drill the rotor for the 4.75 S-10 bolt pattern (the Seville is 5" bolt circle). Not saying it's the BEST option, just answering your question. Ray
The 77-79 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham had 4 wheel disc brakes also some models of the same year Buick Riviera. Calipers had ratchet parking brakes and vented rotors.
