My buddy and I finally made it out to Mr57's to pick up our cars. My friend bought the 1948 hudson, and myself, the 1938 Dodge Sedan. Here's some pics. AS far as plans, not quite sure yet! The hood is supposed to be in perfect shape inside the car - havn't had time to check it out yet.

We got out there in the morning - did a round of golf, then went to get the cars. It was a gorgeous day which was surprising! Mellville declared a state of emergency the day before, they had 4 inches of rain in 40 minutes!

Thankyou to George and his friend with the towtruck for the help with the dodge! And for buying me a powerade! Oh - and I should also probably thankyou for WESTNILE from all the damn mesquitos out there!

Pics - one pic of golf and the prairies at around 5:30AM

any suggestions or pics of similar cars - we'd love to see them!

You have togive these young guys credit. The Hudson was in a friend's back yard and in 4-5" of water, and the pasture where the Dodge was had EVERY mosquito within a 2 mile radius converge on us as soon as they smelt fresh blood. They got loaded up and on their way without too much complaining. They did land themselves a couple of decent projects (but then again, I am somewhat biased) :)

Well - got her off the trailer and into a resting spot - No easy task considering there's no wheels - and no front axle. Also took the hood out of the car and put it on just to see what she looks like!

There's no front axle - do I need to find an original? will others fit there? wouldn't mind getting wheels on the car so I can roll it around. . .

One of the members in our club is sellin his rodded 37 Dodge 4 door sedan actually. It has a mustang 2 front end in it so I am not sure what he did with the original stuff or if he even still has it at all but when i see him i will ask for ya. I know it was all good as he drove the car the first year or so using the straight axle and such.

That'd be gret if you checked on that! I saw an old dodge sedan yesterday on my ay home. It was in primer grey and rolling pretty good. I think George (mr57) mentioned something about a mustang 2 front end as well.

I'm jealous I love the 38 Dodge, they called it the ugly duckling but for some reason it just looks sinister to me, very "gangsteresque" (new word people). I had one but had to sell it off for baby funds. I put a MII under it using a Street Rod Engineering crossmember, it worked very well. You could also use the stock axle if you can find one, a plymouth of 37-38 would probably be the same. Or modify it to work with an early ford set-up??? Nice buy.

The Ugly Duckling!! no way! I love the look of this thing. and just as you - when I see it - I think "Mafia." The trunk is big enough for few scrunched up bodies as well.

Seems like a MustangII front end is popular for these things. Where do you find this information in the first place?

Send MYRIDE a pm and he'll put you on to an inexpensive MII front end setup. He used one in his 38 coupe, said nothing but good things about it. Macgyvers is also an option.

Another option for a front is a volare clip, but honestly the MII is the way to go. SRE will include the lower boxing section you need for the rails because they look like a rainbow in the front to accomodate the leaf spring set-up. Then you just wack the top crowns off and slap a flat plate over it (also included), then weld in the crossmember. It will put the front down there where it needs to be.

My suggestion, PUT A MOPAR IN THAT MOPAR. Resist temptation to put the SBC cancer in your car.

I'm a HUGE fan of the 413, or how about a 361 HiPo. 4-SPEED crash box.

    Hey Guys!

Mr57 - thx for the info - Wen I have the funds I'll definitly look at that as an option.

Choped 50 - Working on getting pics of the Hud - as for plans - I'll do some photoshop stuff. But plan on getting her rolling first, then attacking the fenders - final plan - mafia and mean looking. Chopping, keeping handles, and something I havn't seen on a car lke this before - raking back the front grill maybe . . . Again - gotta do some thinking and photochopping . . .

Sodas- thx - another point for the m2 front end.

crush - Thx for the carnut link.

hotrodch***is - goikng to look for a mopar to put in the mopar. Again - we'll see!

Some More Pics for those that care.

    Looks good Jonny!
I am the guy with the 48 Hudson and I will be posting pics of it soon.
Thanks again Mr57 for your help in loading the cars and the the drinks on that hot a muggy day.
I poured some diesel fuel in the cylinders to hopefully that loosens the engine up. By the way Mr57, all 4 tires hold air and it rolls so easy that 1 person can push it, despite its 5000lb weight. I was amazed at how easy it was to push.

No I havn't - All I've done is clean it out - get out the hood and sides and make sure they're in good condition - and start initial planning in my head.

I had in my head I couldn't start till this fall/winter anyway. So thats when it all starts! Still need to figure out what I'm going to use for a powerplant, and what I'm going to do for the front end and all that ****. Don't really know anything about all this stuff - been mostly researching body stuff as of late.

If you need an avatar - just pm me and I'll make you one for your name! I've fallen behind a little in that duty - but THings are crazy busy at work here lately.

Did a quick chop job in photoshop . . . don't know exactly what route I'm going to take with it though. Might do a chop like this - but not sure if I'm liking the flow. We'll see.

Love the photo chop. As for the front I did a Mustang II set-up on a 38 4 dr like yours. I bought the crossmember through Street Rod Engineering and it went in really slick. To be honest though the stock front suspension would work real nice, you can get disc brake set ups for those too and also not too tough to lower it. There's a tech post on the front brake conversion in archives on here, check it out.

Thx for the info! and the compliments! I pretty much have no idea where to start in terms of this car - or any car for that matter - so any comments or ideas or tech is always appreciated!

So you're saying if I can get ahold of all the stock frontend stuff - suspension, axle, etc - I could make it work with discs - thats cool - might be a good option for me to begine with!

Thx Mexicano - yeah - I dig the front - and love the "gansta" look of it all. This thing should look pretty mean when it's done. Well - I guess depending on the route I decide to go with paint ;)
