really? "retarted" ? they teach you that in traditional school? you guys think there is only one track running through that long tunnel you look down....

  3. Finster.....

The bad news is...you have "Rat" poisoning... lol :)

Good news is...it can be cured!

    We can help.

traditional hotrods are raw, clean, fast, simple and loud!

less is more...the boldness comes from the subtle styling...

easy is better, because easy makes sense...why would you complicate something that shouldn't be complicated?

ratrod styling is like a giant dragon's head sword...

    traditional hotrods are like katanas

Even if you not making it a rat trap go to killbillet.com and youll get the basic idea of how to build the frame into what you are thinking. This is not the right site for the style your looking for.

And yes... there is something wrong with that frame, but dont call it a retard it never had a chance

Yes Retarted! The tunnel is between the p***enger seat and the driver. You will need to look over the drive shaft tunnel just to see the p***enger. Only cars being built like this back in the day were by people that did not have the sense and skill to do suspension mods. where will the engine sit? usually the bottom of engine sits even with the frame the valve covers will be even to your with that channeled frame!!!

my tudor has no more of a tunnel than most station wagons had...remember sitting in the back seat and nobody wanted to sit over the 'hump'? having a tunnel on the floor isn't 'retarded' and FYI mine is no more than 4 1/2 above the floor, thats less than the rise of the seat base. You guys have no problem spewing your distaste for imagitive designs, but never seem to see that it's ALWAYS been in EVERY hotrodder's blood to BE DIFFERENT

    WTF is "retarted"?

  11. Finster..... you fight back.... that's good. Most run off with their tail between their legs. You'll be a good Hamber, just dont mention the r word. :D
Seriously, the style of frame you want to build is more extreme than we are used to here, so you likely wont get exact dimensions etc. I suggest you do what most all rod builders do, regardless of the frame height, and that is ac***ulate or borrow all the bits you want to use and mock the car up how you want it to sit. By that I mean body, engine, front axle, rear axle, wheels and tires with the tire height you envisage. Once you get it all how you want it to look, you can start thinking and sketching how the frame is going to look.
FWIW: you'll probably end up with a rear zee of 12"-17" and a front zee or a swoop of 6"-8".

And how! That's all people wanna do on here half the time is get pissed that we aren't traditional and we're ruining it. Go cry to the moderators about how we wanna build cars differently. Thats why they're called custom cars last time I checked. Not everyone wants a 32' roadster with a flathead and a lasalle ****** that sits 14" off the ground. Didn't your mom tell you if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all? I know the interent isn't traditional but I think it applies here too, so shut your mouth and go wax your street rod that probably never gets driven and you didn't build yourself.

Is that when your pop tart gets forgotten in the toaster and cools down so you gotta push it back in?

  15. BTW: If you're over 5' tall you'll need to give a lot of consideration to interior room. I'm 5'10" and my AV8 has a 4" chop and no channel..... to channel it I would have to have the seat squabs on the floor, otherwise I'd get a very stiff neck from peering out the windscreen.

You're referring to frames Z'd front and rear? I believe it was a young Gene Winfield who parked on the street in front of one of the magazine offices decades ago, and went in to see if his car could get featured. His roadster was Z'd front and rear. The editor at the time was quoted as saying that he'd never seen anything like it before, in that he couldn't believe the car sat so low, yet remained mounted on top of the rails.

I guess Mr. Winfield just didn't have the "sense or skill"...

Genes car didn't sit on the ground, though.

Gene Winfield is a close family friend and I know what you are referring too and in the beginning of his hot rod existence he built cars quite crude in a chicken coupe in his mothers back yard in Modesto. If you ask him if he would channel a rod like that now I think we would get a different answer. Actually I know we would.

Hey guys, he clarified what he meant, and simply wants his car to ride real low. Let's put the drama aside before this thread gets closed (might be too late for that, lol), and try to help the guy. There are plenty of low traditionally built rods here. K?

Wow this is crazy. You guys are real helpful I'm thankful for all the references that's awesome. You guys are getting it what I want is traditional simple clean but low. I love when the top of the wheels are over the trunk I think it's looks awesome. I like the look of 32 frame rails but it's just not my style I'd go buy a 4x4 if I wanted to go off roading haha. I was looking at bolingbrothers.com I thought their z's frame 12 in the back and 5 in sweep in the front look really nice. Thier internal gussets were pretty cool. Their floors looked pretty legit to, not sure if that's traditional or not but I like the thought and craftsmanship of them. I think the bags make for a nice ride and dumped on the floor when parked looks mean. I'm going to pic up the body on Saturday so I will post some pics I think I might start on a frame jig. I'll probably chop it first we'll see

And to all the haters out there that's just motivation for me to prove you wrong but changing your stubborn minds is probably pretty difficult. Almost as difficult as a three legged cat trying to bury a turd on an ice pond, but I have faith.

To all the others I appreciate you feeding my brain and encourageing creative thinking and originality.

In my opinion that looks like one miscalculated hot mess of a **** up. Especially from the back. Barfff.

As far as parking with the frame on the ground or drastic lowering, that takes some work and ingenuity to pull it off correctly. I admire the skills but don't understand the look. Ill never get it don't want to either . It don't matter to me what you build as long as you're happy and learn something in the end. Hopefully youll learn that style kinda ****s. There are a few guys here who started buildingthose and saw the light and build some nice stuff now. Real talent that was misdirected.

    Good luck on your project

Most who jump into this jump into a Crazy R.R. style, but ALWAYS end up selling the Crazy R.R. car cause thay want to make it more stock & less crazy, & they kind of develope a sense of appreciation for what it cl***is, vintage, cool & old. They end selling it cause its too BUTCHERED. Butchered is a 70s/80s term before R.R. SIMPLICITY is soooo much nicer.

I met this 50s kid new to this just like you, he was buying 40 brakes off me, he ask, "could you help "z" my channled A"? "Yeah", so I go check it out, "Hey this is a real raodster". He wanted to do a . . . . "Advice with chopping, channeling, and z'ed frames". He really glad I talked him out of have the top of the wheels level with the decklid/z'ed.

I feel fortunate that I grew up back when it was the norm. I have been hooked on that style for 50 years at least, and I can't seem to shake it. I blame the AMT plastic model company, that's where I got the disease.;)

I do see some greybeards my age, building the new breed of belly draggers, but that's ok with me.

The car from the above post, justs jumps right the heck off the page, as far as I am concerned. An old time, comfy hot rod. It looks so...natural :)...to me. ****, I bet it even smells like an old hot rod...you know, that old vinyl, and a bit of oil :D
