Hey Everyone, Greg Faulkenbury here and new to the site. I live near Charlotte, NC and have been addicted to hot rods since i was a boy. Step Dad had a 40 Ford - the car was sold and i never got to drive it but i've wanted a hot rod ever since. After 9 months of being disgusted by trying to purchase from different web sites i'm taking the plunge and going to Louisville Ky next week for the show. I'm not trying to get in anyone's business but would really appreciate suggestions on financing and purchase once i'm there. It seems there is no end to how people create ways to take stuff that isn't there's so i'm a little concerned about just taking a bank check (some people don't want them) and i'm concerned for myself about carrying cash. I have a cap for spending, i can get the cash out, i can take a bank check or whatever. If anyone has ever done this (purchase from a show) i'd appreciate some advice on the best way to get a deal done and not offend the present owner. I'd just like to find a car i like, buy it and trailer it home. Thanks in advance for any suggestions - greg
Cash mades better deals, most sellers aren't going to take a check these days. Check to see if theres a branch of your bank in Kentucky ,make the deal go down and get the cash. Cash also gets lower prices. Like the old saying, money talks and ******** walks.
Thanks very much. I've had relatives tell me to go both ways on this but thought i should reach out to people that have actually done this before. Thanks again for your time. greg
I'm in agreement on the cash. Years ago there was a guy that would show up at the Nationals with a briefcase full of cashier's checks. He would buy a car on the 1st day, and flip it by the 3rd day. Then he would buy again. If it didn't sell at the Nationals, he would take it to the Frog Follies, or The run in Pidgon Forge, Tn. Now days, cashier's checks& money orders can be forged, so I'd go with cash. Load your pockets and your wife's purse with $100 bills. The best deals are made on Sat. after the drawing for the giveaway car, and on sundays. Some people will sell on sat. if they are leaving to head back home early. Don't just cruise the Fairgrounds, cruise the Motel parking lots in the evenings also. Good Luck, and welcome to the HAMB.
i thank you for your reply - need all the help i can get and hoping i find one i like and can afford. great suggestion about the parking lots! i didn' think about that! i'm not interest in flipping the car - i've wanted a hot rod for so long and it will probably be the only one i own but have no intention of ever seling it, probably either get buried in it or give to my son one day. thanks again for your time and reply, greg
