is it possible to use a square port intake on round port heads? do they make a special intake gasket for this?
You can usually get away by using the large square port intake over the oval port heads, but, there will be an obstruction of the airflow because the larger square port will actually be parially blocked by the smaller oval opening, but yes it's been done. Definitely won't work the other way around because you would have air leaks since an oval port intake is smaller than a rectangular port head. Just to get an idea take and old intake gasket from a square port and lay it over an old oval port to visually see, might not be the proper way but been there and done that!
I've never tried it, but several guys have said it works fine. use the big gaskets, they should seal ok.
I've done it with no problems, picked more rpm's and moved the power curve in the motor,I had a set of ported oval ports. Just use the gaskets for the manifold and you may need a couple more degrees of timing.
Yep it works both ways and most people cannot tell any difference when the square port intake goes onto an oval port headed engine.
