And that is to say not much, because I sometimes feel "dumber than a box of rocks". I need a Weiand intake manifold afficiauto that can identify a Weiand SBC intake for me. In all my years dealing with them I have never seen nor have I even heard of one like this. What I have is an intake that has the stock number #WCV283 in the middle of it. It is a dual quad and has no crossover heat tube under the middle and has only a small 4 bolt square pattern. It would be interesting to see how close I can come to an iden***y without the "always requested pictures".
Sounds like you've already identified it....I mean, ya know it's for a SBC and ya have the model #. Sounds very unusual though, not having a crossover... Are ya trying to know it's manufacture date?
That's exactly what I am trying to find out Josh. Also, was it a flash in the pan or designed to be used on something special? I guess I will snap a couple pix so the ID might be easier.
sounds like an early intake to take wcfb carbs frrom caddy or olds dual quads that is missing the adapters for the larger base carbs. i have a nos one for early olds motors with the adapters
10-4... Weiand has been one of my favorite speed manufacturers, so I have a bit of literature on 'em...I don't recall seeing such a manifold however. I'll do a little digging in my stash... Sounds like it may be some sort of 'Vette replacement (race?) manifold as mtpockits eluded to...lack of crossover heat is weird.... It's gotta be Weiand's earliest attempt at a 2x4....
Well Josh, I have 2 very rebuildable Stromberg 4A Aeros with new kits I'm going to put on it. I think they will make the perfect marriage. Smal carbies for a small motor. Oh, I anticipate it going on my little 265 if plans don't change for something else. Also Josh, If you can find anything out about when and why this intake was made by Weiand, I would sure like to know.
Well ****.....I came up with nuthin' on that intake.... That's gotta be a very rare intake...it kinda has an Offenhauser "look" to it.... It's pretty damn neat...
I think there are supposed to be "adapters" to mount the carbs to. Some of the early Offenhausers were this way. Maybe someone has an old Weiand catalog. Butch/56sedandelivery.
one for sale here on the H.A.M.B. Same number but your carb. mounts are opened up. might be a older model then yours. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=637180
From 1965 1/2 catalogue: Model WCV 283 - Fits 283 and 327 cubic inch engines. This manifold with its large plenum chamber design is made for all out Drag-Strip performance. Made for AFB Carter carbs. No heat. Also an excellent unit for high performance Marine conversions. Like our other manifolds, this one is cast of high grade aircraft aluminum alloy. For show use, you may order this manifold polished to a high finish for a modest extra charge. Part number 7250 - $92.50 The picture shows the square base to rectangular base adapters. Jon.
The Offy "360" manifolds were the same layout as this manifold. It's a vintage design, but realize mixture distribution and flow balance to each cylinder is not very good with that design of manifold. Modern open plenum manjifolds have a lot of compensatioin built into them that these old ones lack.
