The outsourcing began NOT to save you the consumer money. It is to maximize the profit of few. They could careless about manual labor work forces here. And forget safety and quality for the consumer (us) that would cut into profit. And like most low-middle income consumers, we are forced (hard times) each year to purchase more and more of a sub-standard product at 'the big box outlets'. But these very critical parts like spindles should not be an issue. Save up for the real deal, or risk life and limb on the road.

  4. Maybe he is an artist. Artists have to suffer before that can become popular, just as Maynard Krebs. ;)

CAN China make decent quality parts.
    Yes they can.

Are all Chinese parts of acceptable quality ?

    Do you feel lucky ?

Besides labor costs one of the factors that have forced co.'s overseas is EPA restrictions, they have forced many foundry operations out of business !! Sooo ,we've more or less done it to ourselves!!

This is the samething people used to say about jap products years ago. Now everything has moved to china and Mexico, jap products were way better. China and Mexico don't have have the quality control That we (united states) and jApan have.
Any way I'd rather my life depend on a 72 year old ford part rather than a new communist china parts any day.

  12. Word!

  13. We have been manufacturing cars and car parts in Mexico for 4 or 5 decades maybe longer than that. You don't need to be bothered by Mexican parts you have been driving them most of your life.

Chinese and Taiwanese parts are a totally different story.

This is a perfect example of what NOT to do...
You cannot tell the quality of the material or the heat treat of a bearing by looking at it. I'd bet a paycheck that your Chinese bearings won't last a fraction of the time that a quality Timken, SKF, NTN, etc., would. Chinese lookalikes don't necessarily workalike.

  26. I worked in a machine shop in the past in my late 20's.

I can tell you by the clean break of this Ford straight "I" beam axle that is made from the very cheapest pig iron that is available.
I can see this from the color of the fresh metal break & grain structure present.
You can bend over & take a shit on the ground & let it dry in the sun for a day or 2.
Your very own dried shit will be just as strong or stronger than this china crap part that failed early on.
    Very Good way to die.
Run your streetrod or race machine to 100+ mph, hit a bump in the road or track, china I beam fails & breaks. You lose control & flip your ride onto the roof several times.
Hopefully you installed a full 10 point rollbar not made out of china steel too. If so, the tubing will collapse and you will be crushed into many pieces.
Henry Ford specified VANDIUM metal to be added to all his highly stressed suspension & driveline componets.
Makes any cast or billet ferrous iron based material 100 times more fatigue resistant & adds great beaming & torsional strength.

I would not fly on any china spacecraft by the way even if you paid me $$$$ trillions to to do so.
That ficker of a rocket is made from the same crap metal as shown.
They just palain suck at smelting metal 100 % purified clean as necessary in highly stressed automotive & racecar use.

So Yes, Henry Fords 70+ year old parts are superior to modern day china crap.
He loved to go fast & in style too.

    BR

^^^^^ Well said! I tried to Google a photo of the Ford I Bean that was twisted into coil spring looking mass at a Fair in 1936. The photo isn't clear enough to copy. I've seen one of these axles at Harshey. Henry Ford knew metal, and who to hire to produce the best. Bob

  28. All Old School Ford Parts have high Vandium metal content.

My 1st car was a Ford. 1970's lead tank.
I beat the living shit out of it every day for 3 years straight.
I often took it off roading on weekend Beer - 1/2 barrel parties in the middle of nowhere with 8 other young men & women inside.
A few times & had that old 1977 Ford LTD II airborn off the ground jumping railroad tracks at 100 mph + with 4 people inside.
We would be airborne & weightless for 5 seconds or so.
I wore my seatbelt when doing this stunt so I could keep control of the leadtank with my ass trying to lift off the bench seat.
Not A SINGLE SUSPENSION PART EVER BROKE IN 2 OR BENT OR FRACTURED IN 2 LIKE SHOWN ABOVE.

    READ MY LIPS HERE.
THIS HOW I FEEL ABOUT CHINA PARTS.
    FICK THOSE MOTHER FICKERS.
    KISS MY ASS TOO.
I WAS BORN IN THE USA & 100% PROUD OF IT.
IF YOU LOVE CHINA PARTS SO MUCH, GO MOVE THEIR NOW PLEASE.
