Looks like exhaust is good topic today, I have a question. Will a pair of cast iron Fenton headers give my 235 the same sound as splitting the manifold?? Im going after the rapping sound. I have read alot of posts on the styles of pipe to use and or mufflers or no mufflers. Ive called a few muffler shops and they all say "thats old school we don't do that, it will break" I did find an old trapper who said he could do it. So I just have to decide what I want, so any suggestions would be great.
Its easy = Fentons and 30" Smithies mufflers as far back from the mainfold as possible, or so they say on the inliners web site www.inliners.org
The headers are easier to work with, great sound as well. Glass packs with full length tailpipes will really" rack off " as we used to say. Jerry
I've heard of guys running a glasspack in only one pipe, with the other pipe straight, supposed to sound great.
I've got fentons on my X frame 58 wagon w/ 235. Sound great. Put the glasspacks backwards, as close to the headers as possible, and sound great with my bellflowers. Pop and crackle (not too much snap though) On a side note, I just put headers on my lady's 62 Falcon w/ a I6 144ci. Since it is a unibody, and lowered, w/ little room to work with, I ran straight pipe all the way back. Put pea-shooters on (1-1/2") Sounds great and isn't as loud as I was afraid of. Get the nice pop and crack when I let off the gas. Hope this helps. Inline seis por vida! Erron
Check out Kansas City Customs, there is a link from the www.inliners.org site. His splits are really nice looking. Jay
